Judge orders Trump accounting firm to hand over records to Congress

Washington (CNN)A federal district judge has told the accounting firm Mazars it will need to turn over Donald Trump's accounting records from before he was President to the Democratic-controlled House Oversight Committee.

In a 41-page opinion, Judge Amit Mehta of the DC District Court rejected Trump's attempt to block the committee's subpoena, asserting that Congress is well within its authority to investigate the President.

Congress specifically can probe the President for conflicts of interest and ethical questions, Mehta wrote. "History has shown that congressionally-exposed criminal conduct by the President or a high-ranking Executive Branch official can lead to legislation," Mehta wrote, citing the Watergate investigation by the Senate.

"It is simply not fathomable that a Constitution that grants Congress the power to remove a President for reasons including criminal behavior would deny Congress the power to investigate him for unlawful conduct -- past or present -- even without formally opening an impeachment inquiry," he added.

obviously this is huge bc it sets precedent. im sure the don will have his team appeal, but they will have to find some grounds where the president is immune from investigation, which i think is close to impossible

that is, if you give a fuck about what the constitution says on the matter. and the number one job of the courts is to uphold the constitution

getting the records right in the middle of the campaign would be perfect. then a visit to michael cohen to point out where the bodies (if thats even needed) are and youve got your grounds for prosecuting the charlatan in chief. even the soulless gop would have to go along in the face of provable crimes

I believe that is the job of the IRS Criminal Investigation Division. Nothing out of them for the last number of years. It is not the perview of these Democrat Yahoos on the judiciary committee. Jerrold Nadler, a member of the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee when he was in the NY Assembly and is a member of the NY Democratic Socialist of America and the Democratic Socialists of America now. Gee, I wonder what their agenda really is?

    the hell it isnt

congress' constitutional obligation by law is oversight of the president

did you even read any preceding posts? the federal court just Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins gorilla slam dunked that and smashed the backboard raining glass shards over the dons head

now his team has the very steep uphill climb to show where the court made a mistake. it will probably get pushed up to a higher court just due to the importance, but ultimately the SC will have to decide if the don is subject to what is clearly stated in the constitution - congressional oversight

hes going to lose this one. i realize its hard to hear or see with all that sand plugging your ears and eyes, but those records WILL get in the dems hands. hopefully, right in the middle of the campaign where they will hit like a nuclear tipped cruise missile right on top of the charlatan in chiefs head

edit: corrected "the opposing party's" to "congress'"
