honor Pancho Billa. I'm guessing Bert will love this. :) Again, the overwhelming majority of Bills articles today were about Pancho, not many other topics to post a thread about for discussion.

Letter: Bills should honor its most loyal fan

    By Staff|Published 2:53 p.m. May 17, 2019

It is very sad that the passionate fan Ezra Castro, aka Pancho Billa, has passed at the young age of 39. A fan through and through who dedicated is time as the No. 1 fan of the Buffalo Bills. In his honor the Buffalo Bills organization should put his name on the Wall of Fame. He leaves his passion for the Bills and will be missed greatly.

Rest in peace the one and only “Pancho Billa.”

I think I heard Harrison Phillips speaking on this? And why did they change Pancho's last name to Vigil? (that's pronounced vee-hill, for folks who havent been outside of Western NY and lived amongst mant foreigners like some of us, lol)

I think they mean it's a vigil for Pancho, not changing Pancho's name. For those who don't know the English language, a "vigil" is:
    vig·il
    /ˈvijəl/
    noun
    1. a period of keeping awake during the time usually spent asleep, especially to keep watch or pray.
"my birdwatching vigils lasted for hours"
    2. (in the Christian Church) the eve of a festival or holy day as an occasion of religious observance.
No, this is all in good fun...I would never say this to your face...well, okay, but I'd say it with a smile

Oh yeah, thanks for that. I knew what a vigil meant, but I live with a lot of foreigners around me, some with that for their last name. I just figured maybe the media wanted to ameliorate his image to the handful of Americans still familiar with history.

His namesake was a man who attacked the US after attacking his own government, and evaded capture when the US was duped into WW1 and decided to needlessly waste lives elsewhere. His real last name is also famous as someone who brutalized his own people, not terribly far from the US. I thought maybe Vigil would be a more historically friendly name in this hemisphere, but what do I know? :-)

Funny. I was just being snide, J. Don't mind me.

This headline quietly comes out right as all of the Pancho stories slowed down, to very little fanfare. I think Bert and/or one other person recently mentioned the guy deserves some recognition....maybe amongst all the uproar, somebody like Bert made a similar suggestion to the Bills? Ask and ye shall receive: (many Range members know I am a fan of title belts, so that's an extra reason to honor the Bills Elvis. Pancho was a luchador, does anyone know if he had a title belt too?)

I actually think I'd like one on my tombstone....though I dont plan to be there. I think I might also wanted it to say "I thank you for dinner" on it.

"Bills Elvis" to be honored by BFLO Hall of Fame Experience
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- For the second time, a fan will be inducted into the BFLO Hall of Fame Experience's "Fan Wall of Fame."

Following the 2018 induction of the late Ezra Castro, known to most western New Yorkers as "Pancho Billa," "Bills Elvis" will join the Wall of Fame.

"Bills Elvis," whose real name is John R. Lang, has been a season ticket holder since 1992.

"He created the Elvis costume, put a 'squish the fish' on the guitar and he won the bet and was featured in nearly every game after that. If you watch the Bills games on television or go to the games yourself, no doubt you have seen Bills Elvis," the BFlo Hall of Fame experience wrote.

On June 3, Lang will be honored at Town Ballroom during the "Circle the Wagons with Chris Berman and The Twang Gang Band" event.

“A huge thank you to everyone for the past 27 years that I have had fun with at the games and to all Bills fans for helping me to continue the great tradition. I have plans to be at every home game and eventually the Super Bowl!” Lang said.

Tickets can be purchased here. Prices range from $30-$75.
