    Sabres acquire Skinner from Hurricanes

The Buffalo Sabres today announced the team has acquired forward Jeff Skinner from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for forward Cliff Pu, a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.

Skinner (5'11", 200 lbs., 5/16/1992) joins the Sabres after spending his first eight NHL seasons with the Hurricanes. In his 579 career games, he has totaled 379 points (204+175), scoring the 20th-most goals in the NHL during that span and tying for 10th-most at even strength (159).

Wow. There were rumors about the Sabres being interested in Skinner. They kind of went quiet after ROR was traded, so I kind of forgot about it.

Ahh, ya's beat me to it. I love this first line in the Buff. News:

    Jason Botterill is a savage.

It's August, the deadest month on the hockey calendar, and the Sabres general manager set the sport on its ear Thursday night by pickpocketing winger Jeff Skinner from the Carolina Hurricanes.

And that's the only way to describe it.

they still have to convince him to sign an extension

but what a terrific gamble. after a season of playing with talents like eichel and dahlin and seeing the hockey crazed city of buffalo and seeing the team surge into the middle of the standings and a probable playoff berth, getting an extension should be a formality

Skinner had a no trade clause and he had to waive that to come to the Sabres. So at least there is some optimism there.

Really didn't see this trade coming at all and they didn't have to give up very much.

    I'm excited for the season!

I heard a quote from the Calgary GM that Skinner had the Sabres as a top destination from day one. Primarily due to him growing up in Toronto

well after a surprise last place finish when they were hoping to contend for the post season, they had no choice but to change the lockerroom

ror is a good player but as a team leader you simply cant say you lost your love of the game over all the losing. idc if its true, thats ultra weak sauce there

now with all the changes theyve made it looks like half a different team. new starting goalie, nice boost to overall team speed, a generational defenseman, and an elite two-way center still looking for his first chest hair

plenty of reason to shoot the enthusiasm gauge up a few notches

    The new top 6:

Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart, Sheary, Okposo, Mittlestadt.....

then a big upgrade to your bottom 6 too. Berglund, Thompson should add depth and intrigue.
