    1) Get rid of the Cap problems. Took him two seasons and at a cost of high paid talent.
    2) Go after A franchise QB. Traded some significant talent, but got the draft capital he needed. I think he expected us to finish with a worse record and not have to use that capital, but was willing to pay a price to get his QB. You may disagree with his choice of QB, but we went after one.
    3) Get coaching in place. defense and HC he seems to be OK, I think the OC has been an issue. Not sure how good he is on getting a superior coaching staff together.
    4) draft - not sure what his plan is here yet. Seems heavy on defense so far. But there may be issues as to why that is.
    good post

i just feel like he could have done all this AND kept marcell on the roster

I think you are right. But they obviously held Marcell to a different value, but who knows.

Marcell was vastly overpaid and was a nonentity. I'm glad that loser is gone. Not a team player. No effort.

Marcel's contract was an albatross around the neck of our organization, The fact that he found someone to take his lazy ass off our hands should have put Beane in the running for GM of the year. All I read on this site prior to the draft was, how the Bills need to do whatever it takes to move up and get one of the top 4 QB's, Bust potential be Damned. I said more than once, if they gave up too much to get the QB and he failed it would set the team back 5 years, I was told repeatedly that it wouldn't hurt us that bad and we needed to take that chance. Here we are, Beane got his guy and he didn't overpay at all and he managed to come out of it with a beast of a Linebacker. He rid himself of over paid players, injury problems, attitude problems. The whiny negative nancy's on this site just want to bitch about everything. I think the team is headed in the right direction and Beane and McDermott might actually know what their doing.

So far I’d give them a below average grade.
    Trading Dareus for nothing.
Trading away the best QB on the roster.
Trading away too much to move up in the draft.
    Then drafting Josh Allen.
If Allen is a bust, Beanes plans will turn out to be a failed plan.

    Hopefully his plan works.
I’m going to predict that he’ll be looking for a new job in 3 years.
Some of the things you type is mind boggling.

I know that there is still a lot of work to get done, The O-line, Receiver, Linebacker, Potential replacement for Shady, Oh wow! when it's typed out like that, sure seems like some heavy lifting needs to get done. Beane has them trending in the right direction, He is going to have a fair amount of cap space next year to fill some of those holes, But I would bet my last dollar that he doesn't over spend for anybody. I won't be surprised at all if our O-line is way better than people think it's going to be.

I thing that the coach and GM subscribe to the notion that the highest paid guy has to be a leader.

Marcell was the antithesis of leadership, thus he had to go.
