    WJSS Thoughts

Casey Mittlestadt is gonna be a good one, sick hands, distributes well. He finished tied for the tourney lead with 9 points (3 goals 6 assists) and a +9. With Mittlestadt manning left wing, I would love to see a Mittlestadt-Eichel-Reinhart line sooner rather than later.

As impressive as Casey was, Uka Pekka-Lukkonen was disappointing. Coming in as a prohibitive favorite to man the pipes for Finland at the WJC's, Uka left the door open. Granted Finland internationally has been in a down turn of sorts since Rasmus Ristolainen scored the golden goal a few years back. But digging into the numbers reveal some concerning issues. He was 0-3 in 3 starts. He gave up 16 goals in those 3 starts. Sure 2 of those starts went to overtime, the 5.28 GAA is concerning however could be explained away by a poor team ahead of him facing elite level prospects from the US, Canada and Sweden. However, his team was putting up goals, all 3 losses were by one goal. More concerning is the .792 save percentage. If he was playing for a poor team, he would have a higher save percentage on far more shots. I still think he makes the Finland team in December, whether he is the #1 remains to be seen.

Cliff Pu had a decent camp, he started on the Canadian Red team. He scored 1 of the 2 goals in the 8-2 drubbing at the hands of Casey Mittlestadt's team USA White. He played in 2 of 3 games for the combined Canadian squad and scored 1 goal in those 2 games, against Lukkonen in a 6-5 OT win. The jury is still out on whether Pu makes Team Canada though he got a longer look on the combined team may help his case. The problem with Canada is that they could put a competitive WJC team together of roster snubs.

Marcus Davidsson: Davidsson scored 1 point during 4 games in depth duty this week. He will likely need a good showing with Djurgardens in the first half to solidify his WJC position.
