I am not an iOS defect however, I have a lot of experience with iOS because it is the most popular phone that gets sold. In all seriousness it comes down to this. iOS is great if you do a lot of picture taking because the camera is excellent and it has a lot of good photo editing stuff built in however a couple of the newer Android phones are rocking shutters that are instantaneous picture taking which is cool. iOS is also good if you want a simple, user friendly, can only do what we tell you to do device. iOS is simplistic, the look and feel are very easy to pick up and learn. So if you don't want to have to search for stuff (except in the setting app) that's the device for you.
Android is better if the screen on the iPhone is just too small. Obviously the name of the game with Android is choice, screen sizes manufacturers, etc. However (and I don't think you would fall into this trap) do not go to a Verizon/ATT/Radioshack/Best Buy and only get "the free phone" and expect it to compete against your buddy's iPhone.. cause it won't plain and simple. Spend some decent coin on an Android phone and you will not be disappointed. Also if you like to customize stuff and make it unique you want Android. With all the widgets, launchers, themes, the ability to root, etc. you can really make your Android unique. With the iPhone, sure you can change the background, sounds stuff like that but you still have the same 4x4 app grid layout (maybe the app dock is different but that's nothing) as everyone else and the phone will look generally about the same.
Probably missed some stuff but that should give you a basis to make a halfway informed decision
