    VOIP apps for iPhone and Android?

    Does anybody take advantage of these for free calls and texting on your smart phone?

    There's a ton of apps that either do video calling, voice calls, sms and mms, or a combination of there of.

    Fring
    Skype
    whatsapp
    viber
    tango
    etc.

    The biggest con that I get is most of the time, your contacts also have to have the same app installed on their phone.

    Anyways, the girl I'm seeing is on AT&T and I'm on Verizon, so those 500 texts that are allotted to me for texting people on other networks are gonna go fast, so i got her to download Viber for me. it would be great if I could get all of my friends/family to do the same, but since some only have feature phones or really don't care, it's not realistic.

    These apps are also good for getting in touch with loved ones over seas.

    I used to use google voice to save on texting, its a pain in the ass to set up for calls on the phone but it can be done.

    my close friend has an iphone and used one of those free text programs. i always texted his real number because i am a dick and i thought it was funny.

    I never had an luck with using gtalk for texting. gtalk and the Droid X just wasn't compatible, or maybe it was verizon. Maybe Ill give it a try on my new phone.

    I use whatsapp to text a girl who's overseas. it works pretty well and it's also free.

    iPhone guys...how do you like FaceTime? Is it more than a curiosity?
