For Verizon Customers: HTC Rezound only $49.99 at the verizon online store

I purchased one for myself. At that price point, it's hard not to. I'm glad I held off from buying a Charge or a Bionic.

The only caveat that I noticed was giving up my grand-fathered in unlimited data for 2 GB. lets see if thats actually the case.

I'm also stoked that I didnt have to buy via amazon wireless because I heard trying to activate the phone is a real pain in the ass.

Deal goes on til April 9th I believe.

Here's the specs for the HTC Rezound:

    -4G LTE
    -Android 2.3 Gingerbread
    -1.5GHz dual core processor
    -4.3 inch 720x 1280 pixel screen
    -1gb of ram
-8 mp camera on back, front facing camera on front
    -HDMI out
    -6 oz. (bulky)
    -16GB built in storage
-1620 Mah battery (this will suck)
    -16 GB card preinstalled
    -720p HD display

this will be a nice upgrade over my Droid X!

I'm probably getting one. What's that about you giving up your unlimited data? You signed a new contract, but you didn't change your plan, right? D34 may be able to help you. Losing unlimited data can cost hundreds of dollars extra in a year with a 4G phone.

But you can look forward to the ICS and Sense 3.6 updates in about a week. These are very nice updates. With the $100 Beats headphones included that you can sell for $50, this is a good buy.

They made you drop your unlimited? That's odd and the Rezound is a 4G phone and the double data is still going so I am surprised you didn't get 4GB. For 49 its a great buy but you need to spend the extra cash on an extended battery. Sense 3.6 looks cool on the Vivid but 4.0 looks sweet I just hope it has more power management options.

For anyone who cares.. the whole Beats audio thing is a gimmick to get you to buy the phone. The only difference is that the Beats audio uses a different file format that is something like 4x the size of traditional music files so if you can find a place to download these larger files, any phone could have Beats audio.

Actually Famous, activating a 4G VZW phone is far easier than activating a 3G phone. With the 3G you need to dial the *228 and update the PRL file. With the 4G phones the required SIM card does the whole thing for you... it's nice.

Thanks for the info deadman. As for the data plan, when I purchased online, it said my data plan was not compatible with the phone so I had to choose the 4gb plan, which I assume is just a promotion and won't last. There wasn't an option to keep my unlimited data plan.

As far as beats, your right but with this phone you get a free pair of noise cancelling ear phones.

I'm looking into an extended battery too

Yeah, I had to pick a new data plan. 10gb was like 50 bucks, I was paying 30 for unlimited. So I picked the 4gb option.

If you want to stay on with unlimited data, call a rep. If nothing changed with your plan, there was no need to pick a new one. They don't offer unlimited plans anymore, but you are grandfathered in. A rep can change it back.

And I could be wrong but the 5gb option is $60 per month. They charge an additional $30 on top of $30. That comes out to an extra $360 per year, every year for what you should be getting for free with unlimited data.

I just looked. Up to 5gb is $50. It is $10 for every gb after that. 5.1 gb is $60. On a 4G phone you can go through that in no time. Get your $30 unlimited data back.

When I upgraded to the G-Nex nothing changed on my plan and I'm still on unlimited data..I have no idea why any Verizon employee would tell someone otherwise.

    $$$

That said, he wasn't told by anyone. I don't think he spoke to anybody. He just followed the online form, but he should be grandfathered into unlimited data. Talking to a rep can get this straightened out. It's buyer beware as far as Verizon is concerned.

Famous it sucks that the unlimited went away but in all seriousness man the average consumer doesn't even use 2 GB let alone 4. See if you can get it back but I highly doubt you'll for through 4GB. The promotion only lasts so long, but it says on your contract til the end of days, that's why it is such a big deal. When you do talk to someone, call the customer service line, don't talk to the salesmen at the store they are useless when it comes to stuff like that.

Sahlens, you are half right about the data plans. Because the double data is still going on, that 5GB plan for 50 is actually 10GB. Everything that is on the VZW site you need to double to take into account the double data promo.... however much longer they plan on doing it considering it was supposed to end the first of the month.

Oh and just in case you were wondering... the fact that he went from a 3G DX to a 4G Rezound has no bearing on the data plan. My dad went from a DX to a Bionic back in October and he still has unlimited data. He did the upgrade in person but I still don't see why ordering online would effect the whole thing.

My data plan for ATT has been altered too. Imused to get 4gb for $30 and now the choice is 3 for $25 or 5 for $40.

GL the new ATT data plans are 3 for 30 and 5 for 50 I have no idea how you would have gotten 4 for 25 cause the old data plan was 2 for 25 unless they at some point ran double data

GL I forgot you just got the iPhone. If you went from Android to iPhone you are required to change your data plan. The iPhone data plan is a different code in the ATT system and the old plan code would halt the upgrade til you change it. I had a guy come in and trade his iPhone for an Android phone and he had to get rid of his unlimited data because he was changing platform. That is the only bad thing about switching to or from an iPhone if you have any data promo or any grandfathered plans.

thanks for replying in the thread guys. Deadman was right about the data plan. The reason why I was confused was because as I was purchasing the phone online through verizon. it asked me to sign up for a data plan and only offered me 4gb, 6 gb, or 10gb or something like that. I think they were doubling the GBs as a promotion. So I went with the 4GB because it was 30 bucks, the same as what i was paying for unlimited.

I called up customer service to help me activate the phone and as the guy was doing his thing on his end, i asked him if my data plan changed or if it stayed the same. he said that he saw that i chose the 4GB option, but kept it at unlimited because i am grandfathered in. He could have been a dick and not kept me on the unlimited. So kudos to the verizon customer service guy. Plus he was American and he had a great attitude. So anyways, i retained the unlimited plan and thank god because I do get 4g here in Angola sometimes and damn is it fast! Wow. Almost faster than my wireless.

It was just me being paranoid! Kind of like the episode of Friends, i think, where Joey or Chandler stumble upon unscrambled porn on their cable TV. They kept the TV on for fear of losing the porn. Thats how I feel with unlimited data. I'm afraid if I do something slightly different, like buying a new phone online instead of in person or through Amazon, they'll find a way to screw me out of my grandfathered in data. But they didnt. I'm just a paranoid mess. lol The phone is solid, btw.

Im gonna tell my sister about this. She has an Android, the LG Ally, which is a garbage pice of shit. And she is looking to upgrade. her boyfriend has an iPhone and he's obsessed with it, so I'm worried she'll change over. Then she'll lose her unlimited data, huh.

Yeah Famous at least make her aware. Also if she does which... she will not get double data. The promo is only for 4G smart phones which the iPhone is not... so definately dump the Ally cause it was horrid however if she is a data hog then the iPhone may not be the best option $$$ wise. Here is the shameless plug, have her check out the Radioshack in Tonawanda and I can help her out :)

Also, I would be paranoid too Famous. You are grandfathered in to it so upgrading does not affect it however as I am typing this I am not sure if VZW runs the same way with their data and the type of smartphone. With ATT like I said it is a different plan code. I am not sure if Verizon runs the same way however I can find out and get back to you on it.

Also, if you guys are thinking about getting an HTC phone because of the Beats audio integration, I would get the Rezound because it comes with the iBeats and it may be one of the only phones (only one in the US I believe) that will come with these headphones. There are reports that HTC is contemplating the stoppage of shipping headphones with all Beats integrated phone because they found people were buying the phone not for the headphones but for the phone itself (imagine that). Basically it looks like the whole Beats audio thing flopped, which I kinda thought it would.... poor implementation and any phone can do it... just won't have the Beats logo on it.

yeah, the beats thing is kind of pointless. Looks like Verizon is distancing themselves from this phone, too. Not sure why, it's a nice phone.

Its a nice phone but I am hoping that Verizon cant get an HTC One X varient and they have the HTC Droid Incredible 4G coming too. Beats to me is a horrible gimmick. HTC has a history of poor battery life and the extra file type and the extra equalizer that is required for Beats, drains the battery even quicker.
