I have to be optimistic I got laughed at when I picked him up on my fantasy team, so Im grinning right now LOL.

I guess he's also added a slider which has been baffling hitters. He's throwing it down and in to righties and down and away to lefties and he credited that to his strikeouts being so high this year. I think he's at 8.1 per 9. I guess you can teach a old dog new tricks.

With that said I agree with you, I think come late August and September we need to save him for a post season run, maybe skip a turn here or there, his big game prowess and experience in big games is invaluable...

I picked him up for $1 in my auction draft. I dropped him after a week or two into the season.

    Oops.

Nobody has a sweeter swing than Robinson Cano in the game right now.

What's encouraging about Nova in his last two starts is he set a season-high (for himself) ground ball total in each one.

As long as Nova can keep the ball down in the zone he can be effective. He's a pitcher that needs to have his best control every time he takes the mound.

Absolutely correct he is a sinker baller when his sinker is traveling east to wet instead of north and outh he gets it hard. Almost like Ching Ming Wang when e was here, a heavy sinker in the low to occasion ally mid 90's.

With that said the control issue goes for most pitcher who don't have plus stuff.. I mean a guy who thows 90 mph cannot live making mistakes over the middle of the plate as a guy who throws 96 can...

If Robbie could learn to take his walks he'd be a multiple batting champ IMHO

It's why I would never bat him 3rd.

Jeter's been average at best at the plate the last month.

From May 5th to June 5th (27 games)

    .254/.315/.298 2 2B 1HR 5 RBI 9BB 11K

    Won't cut it.

agreed! the only way I would is if AROD was hitting like the old AROD behind him and Granderson behind him... You'd have to throw him strikes...

Wonder why he's not more patient at the plate. The Yanks have some guys that are extremely good at working the count like Gardner, Posada before he retired, Swish, Jeter. You'd think some of that patience would've rubbed on Cano.

Nova was money yesterday. He had one of those "no hitters" after taking 1 quick hit going on for quite some time there.

I'm guessing that the Yankess and probably saying we don't want to take away his agreesiveness at the plate. It makes him who he is. You're either patient at the plate or your not, I don't think its something to be taught. Now I'm not saying you can't teach him to be more selective and teach him to swing at better pitches, becasue he's done that since he's been here. When he first came up, he'd swing at anything, strikes, non- strikes. I think he's been improving becasue he's swinging at strikes now. he's just no the type of hitter to let 2 fastball right down the middle pass him by... But I get what you're saying tho

If you take Cano's aggressiveness away, Rocky is right, he won't be the hitter he is. Cano gets a lot of hits off of ugly balls. Kinda like Vlad Guerrero made a career out of.

He's just not that guy to let strikes pass by him.

BTW for anyone that was a little sad about letting Noesi get away in the Montero deal.. I decided to check out on our old friend whom does have potential to be a decent pitcher.

He's off to a mediocre start..

Safeco has been much more friendly to Noesi than away. .198/.260/..362 with 3.62 ER home vs .263/.338/.542 with 8.15 ERA away.

Pretty much tough I think this will be a permanent trend. He's too much a fly ball pitcher top survive in the smaller ballparks. I think he would get eaten alive making the majority of his starts in Yankee Stadium. I bet Noesi would flourish in the NL East making starts in all those huge ball parks. 86 grounder compared to 134 fly balls so far this year, not a very good ratio.

Even Nova right now is 103 GB to 115FB. If he gets his GB/FB ratio to a 1.0 (like he has been in recent starts) he'll pitch much better. Gotta keep those balls out of the sky in the AL parks.

Sure, that 1st rounder you mentioned, Hensley will likely rank 5-7 on the NYY prospect lists when the post draft lists come out.
He sat in the 92-95 range with his fastball this spring and ran it as high as 97 at times, backing it up with a sharp overhand curve he throws in the upper-70s. His changeup shows promise needs work. Hensley has a high leg kick which sometimes leads to command issues with him.
If he fine tunes that (which he'll have plenty of time to do in the minors, he's only 18) he can potentially be a work horse that eats innings. He's a big kid already. His big thing is going to be getting the ability to just throw strikes consistently.

Here's a short video of him.

8th round pick OF Taylor Dugas already squares up pitching pretty well and is on his way to having at least an MLB bat in a platoon situation.

30th round pick OF Ralph Rhymes led the nation in hitting with a .469 average this year and won the SEC Player of the Year award.

2nd round pick OF Austin Aune, has already agreed to sign. Aune is said to offer big raw power from the left side (built for Yankee Stadium.. woooo.) with arm strength and speed to play CF.

3rd rounder 1B/OF Nathan Mikolas is another LHB with big raw power and an above average hit tool.

12th rounder C Chris Breen out of Florida is pure hitter from the right side and has shown a good ability to hit breaking balls consistently.

Maybe Jeter will turn his luck around a bit in this series against the Mets..

Jeter has .481 avg w 6 HRs during his current 25-game hit streak at home vs Mets (6/27/03.)
Jeter has .381 career BA (122-320) vs the Mets, best for any active player vs any one team.

Nice come from behind win yesterday even though it shouldn't have happened in the bottom of the 9th. Soriano's first blown save in 10 chances. Pettitte pitched well, 6 innings 2 ER with 8K's.

Nice sweep of the Mets. Next up Atlanta. Hopefully another sweep.

Nova pitched well. 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 walk, 6K's and no runs. He also got his first MLB hit. Pitching is coming around nicely. Hopefully they can keep it going.

Yankees are now tied for 1st.

Indeed. They are on a nice little roll now and most of it has to do with the improved pitching. Hughes is on a roll. Nova has now had back to back solid starts and seems to be getting back to form. Andy is still Andy. Looking good right now for the Yanks.

The thing I love about Pettitte, is in his last start he seemed not to have it, and yet was able to battle and keep the team in it. That's what his most valuable asset is IMO... CC gotta win to get back to the team lead in wins now. Good job Nova...

Hell of a run. Everyone pitched in (pun 100% intended). If the hurlers keep up the good job its gonna be hard to stop us. Everyone's doing great lately.
