Difference being nova has made 2 quality starts and Hughes has not 1 quality start. Nova has won 3 ball games Hughes 1, and again he had 2 bad starts in a row and this early on it inflates any number...

Remember when the Michael Pineda news was the worst ever? I want to go back to that time...

Let the David Robertson Era begin!

I am excited for Robertson because I think he is a great player and person. Not happy about how he will be moving into the closing role but that is sports. Get well Mo, hope to see you back soon.

Yankees' Andy Pettitte to pitch at Frontier Field Sunday.

The chance to have New York Yankees great Andy Pettitte pitch at
Frontier Field in front of a sellout crowd was an offer the Rochester
    Red Wings couldn’t refuse.

“The Yankees made it clear that if Pettitte was going to pitch in
this area, it would be at Frontier and not Batavia,” Wings general
manager Dan Mason said. “We had to make it happen.”

The Red Wings have moved Sunday’s regularly scheduled game
at Frontier to Saturday where they play two seven-inning games
against Buffalo starting at 5:05 p.m.

The Yankees are playing 37 “home” games at Frontier Field and seven
more in Batavia as part of a season-long road trip while their ballpark
in Moosic, Pa., undergoes major renovations.

Sunday’s Yankees game against the Pawtucket Red Sox was scheduled
to be played at 2,600-seat Dwyer Stadium, a Single-A ballpark in Batavia.

Devastating news on Mo ... I mean just awful. That is no way to end the career of one of the greatest ever.

Excited about Robertson as well. But my mind is with Mo.

Wonder if he'll wanna try to comeback to end his career on his own terms.

Watch and compare the 7 starts, and stop looking at stat lines, if you come away after watching all of there starts that Hughes is pitching better? then I don't know. I man hughes hasn't even gotten into the 6th inning...

It took just four hours today for the Red Wings to sell out
the 10,840-seat grandstand at Frontier Field for Sunday’s
game featuring New York Yankees star pitcher Andy Pettitte.

The Wings are still selling standing-room-only and bleacher tickets
for $6 each, and 110 passes to the Hardball Café (all you can eat
for $40) on the first-base side. But fans can only purchase them by
calling the box office at (585) 423-9464 or visiting in person. The
Triple-A club canceled its decision to let fans purchase tickets online.

LB: Hopefully now that it will be close to a sellout that we will get TV
coverage of this game on both TWCSN Buffalo and TWCSN Rochester.
TWCSN Buffalo was going to show the Bisons-Red Wings game anyway
so why not just replace it with another Triple A game? (Currently they
are scheduled to repeat the Saturday Bisons-RedWings double-header
so its not like they decided to show a LIVE event as a replacement.
No need to repeat the double-header anyway - people could watch it
at anytime on their On Demand channel.) LB...

I was at the game. Andy wasn't very sharp, even walked in a run on 4 pitches. A lot of balls were squared up and the defense behind him was embarrassing.

I saw him hit 89 on the stadium gun at least once but most of his pitches were closer to 86. He threw about 95 pitches I think.

He walked off the field to a standing O and came back out for a curtain call when the ANDY PETTITE chants got out of hand.

I'm just trying to put this inter perspective.

I'm not a Ivan Nova hater or a Phil Hughes lover. I'm actually pretty neutral when it comes to players. I almost take a GM like stance and look at them for what they are - - just objects to win a game.

Just wanted to point this out since many of you have absolutely trashed on Hughes and anointed Nova as the next staff Ace.

Game Score is something that was developed by the legendary Bill James to give a different point of view on how effective a pitcher has been in a game.

Pretty much a pitcher pitches and his performance is graded with a number.
Bill James to determine the strength of a pitcher in any particular baseball game. To determine a starting pitcher's game score:

    Start with 50 points.
Add 1 point for each out recorded, so 3 points for every complete inning pitched.
Add 2 points for each inning completed after the 4th.
Add 1 point for each strikeout.
Subtract 2 points for each hit allowed.
Subtract 4 points for each earned run allowed.
Subtract 2 points for each unearned run allowed.
Subtract 1 point for each walk.

    Ivan Nova's this year
    56
    46
    55
    24
    34

    Phil Hughes
    49
    24
    42
    34
    50
    56

As you can see.. neither pitcher is really pitching that much better or worse than one another in the grand scheme of things.

...and just to prove the numbers don't always pop out so similar..
Ryan Dempster (!!!!!) has arguably been one of the best pitchers so far this season..

    His scores are
    78
    58
    66
    81

..again.. just throwing out a little bit of info to spark some conversation.

Ok first things first. I personally never said he was an ace of the staff, but at this point in his career he is better, more reliable than Phil Hughes IMO. I think he is a very solid number 3 and someday develop into a number 2 possibly (possibly).

In Novas first 43 appearances he is 20-7 with a 4.08 ERA 1.4 whip with a 152/83 k/bb ratio not bad IMO at all.

I think the problem with Huhges was he came in with outrageous expectations, he wasn't supposed to be pitching as good as an unknown like Nova, he was supposed to be much, much better than that. Nova is a totally different pitcher than Huhges so comparing batter averages against those two, is not fair. Nova pitches to contact, he is a sinker baller, so of course he is going to give up more hits, and yield a higher opponent batting average.

I guess it goes to the old cliche what have you done for me lately, and Hughes 2010 season seems like an eternity ago, while Nova's impressive 16-4 season and his 3-1 start this year, give us more satisfaction I guess. Nova is 19-5 since last year and roughly a 4.5 ERA Hughes in that span a dismal 7-9 with a era north of 6. Even in Huhes 18 win season he had a era of 4.20 compared to Nova's 3.70..

I was and still hope Hughes was going to be a star, but I don't see it. He has a power pitchers mentality with average stuff. He thinks his 92 MPH is hard enough to miss locations and beat people and it's not. He came into the bigs supposedly sporting a 94-96 MPH fastball, if he can somehow regain that then his power pitcher mentality can work... I think he needs to talk to Mike Mussina a little bit and learn how to outthink his opponents, because his here it is hit it if you can approach is wrong for him!!!!

I have a bad feeling Nova is going to get pounded tonight. I'm thinking like 9H and 5ER. Hope I'm wrong.

Actually, I don't feel good about the game in general tonight.

I'm actually betting on TB -1.5.

Shields owns the Yankees and Nova has been regressing.

IVAN, IVAN, IVAN.. lol sorry u lost your bet. Btw I loved the word regressing, the wins like 15 in a row has 2 bad starts and that's regression to you? Man Hughes should be out f a job by your standards

Man what a hater. You know damn well the ERA is inflated over 2 shitty starts. Anybody can go on a 2 start skid. Anybody. CC started the year rough as well. Overall Nova's work over the past year has been extremely good. Better than Hughes 2010 fluke (it appears) season.

    7 innings, 2 runs 8 SO's. So shitty !!

Last nights game was his best start by far this season.

Why would I hate a player on the team I root for?
