Fake Onion story causes real confusion for California town

    From a piece called
Study Finds Every Style of Parenting Produces Disturbed, Miserable Adults
found in full glory here : http://www.theonion.com/articles/stu...es-dist,26452/

The real institute's executives thought The Onion story was funny--at first. But they were soon deluged with emails and phone calls from concerned residents.

"I'm totally aware that it's satire," Robin Bowen, CPI's executive director, told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. "But it's spreading through the Internet and people's blogs and where it's coming from is getting left off and it's looking like a news story."

"We even had parent educators who work here say, 'When did we do a study?' " added Wendy Hilberman, director of marketing and development for the institute.

I really really worry about this world, which has become a place where you lazily click one link and accept it as truth while being unable to click any more to see it isn't, where people are convinced by The Onion.

On the other hand, I am mean enough to laugh at them and would surely take advantage of such fools if I could find a marketable way to exploit them. I am further troubled that people like myself are such mean opportunists and will have a long talk with myself later to straighten me out.

VP means you get to run everything because I sure cannot be bothered, Director of Intelligence means, well, I am seeing secret police and not so secret police, an elite band of phenomenally awesome well dressed females to beat up and suppress my enemies and answer the door when I order pizza....well your door too, assuming we run, which we can't, though we might.

I saw a sweet site once with fb posts and other social commentary assuming The Onion articles to be true. Hilarious.
