I've been refereeing football for 4 years and have had the privelege of refing games with Ryan's teams since I began. In Junior football (grade 7 & 8) and at the high school across the road from me.
The kid is in grade 10 and I did one game where he put 2 quarterbacks out in ambulances and another where he put one out. He's not dirty...he's just fast, strong and intense.
He is an amazing athlete for his age and I look forward to seeing which school he gets a scholarship to in 2 years.

Ryan Hunter accepts his MVP trophy
This past Sunday Ryan Hunter of the Algonquin Barons competed in the National Underclassmen Combine for football in Richmond, Virginia and came away with the “Overall MVP” award. The combine tests a players speed, agility, strength, and on field technique and ability in a variety of drills. There were 77 participants competing in the combine. These combines are run all over the United States and are used as a measuring stick in recruiting high school players for university teams.
Measuring in at 6 foot 3-1/2 inches tall and weighing 330 pounds Hunter ran a 5.7 second 40 yard dash and a 4.9 second pro-agility shuttle. He had a vertical leap of 20.5 inches and a standing broad jump of 7 feet 5 inches. He also bench pressed 185 pounds four times. While many of the offensive & defensive linemen beat him in the bench press few were able to beat his vertical and broad jump results. The leg strength shown in those 2 events can be directly linked to Ryan’s work with the North Bay Norsemen Weightlifting Club under the tutelage of coach Larry Sheppard.
In the on field one on one drills Hunter was dominant playing as an offensive lineman and was never beat in a dozen challenges. At the awards presentations his test results, technique, determination, and footwork were highlighted by the N.U.C. staff.
With this result Ryan has been invited to attend one of the five N.U.C. Ultimate 100 Camps being run in the USA this June. At these camps award winners from all of the combines compete against each other. He has also been tentatively asked to play in the January 2013 N.U.C. All World Bowl which highlights high school players in their graduating year and is scheduled to be played in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
