    Turning 21 Soon

So as the title says I'm gonna be turning 21 soon and I am gonna ask my mom to go to Premiere on Delware and get a mixed 6 pack of various beers but not sure what to ask for. I have never had beer so I don't know what I'll like, I wanna get 6 different kinds of beer and wondering what some of you guys would suggest.

Would probably want like an ale, lager, stout or something dark, pilsner, a wit maybe and not sure what #6 would be but I'm taking suggestions so if you guys have a different combo or whatever let's here it.

Sierra Nevada Killerweis / Ommegang Hennepin / Allagash White / Victory Golden Monkey / Victory Prima Pils / Stone Smoked Porter

    6 different beers.

I'd recommend getting an account on beeradvocate.com and get lost on there reading beer reviews for an hour.
or you could look in the beer review forum
or you could check my blog - - www.tastybeerreviews.blogspot.com (I know... lame name.)

I spend a lot of time in the beer review section lol probably one of my favorite forums. I'll check out your blog and I have been debating on checking out beeradvocates as well which I would probably benefit the most from. Thanks as always Epic.

Can't wait to read it lol. My friend that used to work at the Premier on Delware recommended a sampler from I think Flying Bison so that's in the back of my mind as well.

All the reviews I post here will also be to my blog, so don't hesitate to comment. (I could use the spike in activity.)

I'm not sure if Flying Bison is the right place for you to start. Nothing against them. They are a local brewery though... and I do understand it's all about helping whats here.

But in my honest opinion you shouldn't even go and get the beers I selected. What you should do is get yourself a sampler pack from Victory. Every single beer I have had from Victory has been fantastic and many people I have talked to have agreed. Victory is rather close to us (located in PA) and are definitely one of the premier breweries, at least in the States.

Easy name to remember and sounds promising. I just quickly glanced over BA but Ih ave the day off tomorrow so I'll hit it more in depth tomorrow really like the beer 101 section could probably spend the whole day just there. It has also become clear that I should be asking for a glass too. Does Premier sell beer glasses and are they expensive ?

    Yeah, they sell beer glasses.

Realistically, all you need to do, is get yourself a Duvel glass and a standard pint glass. As you find yourself falling deeper and deeper into the whole beer thing, then start to buy other styles.

I think I paid around $5 for a Duvel glass and a pint glass should only be a few bucks. You can find them anywhere (pint glass.)

Awesome, I may just take the trip to Premier with my mom and pick stuff out. They shouldn't have any issues since I technically won't be 21 but I'll know what I'm looking for ahead of time.

Every time I went there I wasn't ID'd. But most places would have issues with an adult buying alcohol in the presence of a 20 yr old.

They have a slightly outdated beer list on their web site.

While I agree with you that those are six different, and excellent, beers. Ommegang is one of my favorites. I don't know if they're quite right for someone who's never had beer before.

If you haven't had beer before I would recommend going with an ale or a light beer. Your palet isn't refined enough and you probably won't enjoy a real hoppy beer. Go with something smooth and with a bit of flavor and work your way up as you drink more.

Probably right. He'd most likely only enjoy the Killerweis.

yeah, for his first beer of his life, those are often too complex. Id recommend some light beers, blue moon or something else with a fruit in it and something like a guiness.

start simple and increase your taste buds the more you have....

Don't expect to much from your first beer. Even light beer has a bitter taste that you probably need to get used too.

Personally, I've tasted beer infrequently since I was a kid and I still can't stand the bitter taste.

    Deadman,

This may not go over well with the other beer enthusiasts, but, the way i was brought up on beer, has done me well. You might hate me initially, if you try this, you will thank me in the end.

Buy an 18 pack of Busch Light. Now hear me out before you scoff.

Busch Light is possibly the most disgusting beer ever produced on this planet. Especially from the keg, your gag reflex will get a workout.

When I began drinking, I had no money and I was at the mercy of the brothers of my fraternity. They were cheap bastards. So throughout my freshman year of college I was subjected to the most vile beer I have ever consumed.

    However

I now have the greatest appreciation for well crafted, complex beers, i could ever have. If it wasn't for Busch Beer, I don't think I'd ever venture past light beers by Coors, Miller or Bud. Since Busch was so gross, so vomit inducing, any thing I drank after that tasted like pure heaven. I remember drinking Blue Light for the first time. It was a symphony in my mouth. But I knew it didn't end there. So I continued further on into my quest for an authentic tasting beer. I moved onto Yuengling Black and Tan. And I was off.

My dumb story has a moral.

Don't begin with beer you may not be able to appreciate until you have acclimated your palate for more refined beer. Start with shitty beer and work your way up.

A good starting point in all seriousness is PBR.

    Beer !!

No matter which one you pick, its still gonna be beer. Beer is like a bad pizza or lousy sex. At the end of the day you still got laid and had some pizza.

But agreed with the rest of the guys that you should start with something light and work your way up "the flavor ladder"

Welcome to the awesomeness that is beer.

What beer would fine to drink from the bottle? I plan on getting a pint glass but that does not mean that I won't get lazy and just want to pop a top and go.

If you have never had a beer before... Amos is right, you might be best off just getting a 12 pack of PBR and having a few. It's one of the better cheap macros.
