The Official Guide to the Buffalo Range

Thanks and the removal of Groans
For the time being, there will be no Groan feature. Thanks is still available at the bottom of every post. Put simply, groans were getting out of hand. They turned from a feature that was meant to say "I disagree with you" to a feature that was used by posters to continue fights from previous threads and attack posters. Therefore, the Groan feature is gone for now. If you disagree with a persons post, simply click "reply" and tell them why you disagree.

    Range Bookie
This feature is available for all of our donors! To create a bet, simply click "new thread", then scroll down and click the box that says "Post a Range Bookie Event" under Post a poll.

Note: You're betting Buffalo Chips. Your chip total is located on any of your posts under your Avatar and post count. To see the status of current bets, click on "Range Bookie" at the top of your screen.

    Market
This feature allows you to purchase items with your Buffalo Chips. These items include:

    - Custom User Title (including colored, glow, underline...etc)
    - Change your Username
    - Change ANOTHER USERS title
    - Donate to another user
    - Steal Buffalo Chips from another user
    - Purchase special images/smilies
    - Upload your own images/smilies and sell them to other members.

You can access the Market by clicking "Market" on the red navigational bar at the top of any page.

Technically this feature has been around for a while, but it has been upgraded drastically. This button () is at the bottom of every post, and by clicking on it, will bring up the Quick Reply box with the posters quote already inside of it. We encourage all posters to use this feature as it reduces the load on our server, by not opening a new page but simply using the quick reply AJAX feature.

    PM in Posts
You will also now notice that there is a PM icon () at the bottom of every post, making it convenient for you to send a message to that poster.

    What's New?
Next to "Forum" on the red navigational bar at the top of the forum, you will see a link that says "What's New?". By clicking on this link, you will see the 20 newest threads/threads with the most recent responses.

    Video Embedding
We now accept Video Embedding from YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu, Dailymotion, Google, and Metacafe.

    Chatbox
Our main chatbox is located at our forum home (BuffaloRange.com). However, if you would like to make the chatbox larger, you can click on "ChatBox Full" in the blue navigational bar at the top of the screen. This will bring you to a page with a larger chatbox and allows you to follow along much easier.

    Buffalo Sports Now
To find the latest Bills, Sabres, and NFL draft news click on the "Buffalo Sports Now" link on the red navigational bar at the top of the screen. You will then have the option of choosing Bills, Sabres, or NFL Draft news to view.

    Reporting a post
It's becoming increasingly obvious that many posters do not know that they can report a post. This is the BEST way of getting the moderators and administrators attention. We get swamped with PM's on a daily basis; it is often hard to respond to everyone in the same day. Therefore, we STRONGLY encourage users to report a post if they are being attacked by another poster or if they see someone breaking TOS. You can report a post by clicking this icon () in ANY post. Click the triangle image, write down what you are reporting, click submit and it will be made aware to all of the admins and moderators within seconds. Once again, this is the BEST way of getting the moderators and administrators attention.

This post will be edited as more and more features are introduced.

If you have any questions, feel free to reply.

So what forum was the groan feature supposedly being most abused?

Cuz the only ones I ever saw complain (read whine and cry) about it were the right wingers in PRS.

And I personally used it a fair amount in PRS because many of the posts by the wingnuts there are just not worth the time or effort responding to in any type of intellectual manner because it's just wasted on their small undeveloped brains.

IMHO it should be brought back, at least for PRS. Otherwise I'm going to have to quote and type "this post sucks" all the time, it's so much easier just clicking the button. :)

It should at least be brought back till the wingnuts regain some type of power in govt again.

I haven't experienced this yet. Are there specific pages that are slower to load than others?

ie. when i try to use the mouse wheel it scrolls agonizingly slow like a slow wave of the screen instead of a quick spin

Meat et al, speaking as a software guy on the other side of similar situations, might be better to provide as much info as possible regarding your setup (browser, version, computer, etc).

I've no problems with the site with Firefox (3.52). I don't use IE much but wrt this site, I don't seem to have a loading/scrolling problem. I would say that it does seem a little slower than Firefox but < 5%ish, hardly noticeable. IE version 8.0.6001.8702. Browser info is available under Help -> About XXX. I'm currently running an older system (2-3 years?) so my hardware isn't exactly a limiting factor. The best thing would be for folks with problems to specify their setup as much as possible so that Systems et al can duplicate. A close second, a specific secondary site where they could provide some short-term immediate feedback (30-60 minutes?) about problems and Range folk can tweak to try and fix.

Might be inconvenient but switching to a different browser might be a reasonable fix. I like Firefox, IE is more of a target ... Chrome could be very, very fast, was NOT happy with the initial release and reports are that they'd addressed most of that (not performance related, confidentiality). Different browsers for different situations, not entirely unreasonable if there are still issues. Sounds like the current VBulletin relies more heavily on JavaScript, if your system has been compromised that's certainly a target/clue.

Or else you could have been infected, in which case thank the Range for the clue ... run 3-4 virus/trojan checkers, don't assume your current protection is enough nor that one program is sufficient to fix problems because it isn't.
Kyle Williams: “But when you go inside those lines, all those things fall by the wayside. If you’re not out there for the right reasons, and that’s to beat a man, win a football game, you’re not going to last very long. This game is whip or be whipped, and I don’t like being whipped.”"

PFF: He may not be the most recognizable player in the league, and he may not play for a great team, but is that really how we judge players? You look at the total number of pressures he got, or the total number of defensive stops and you see a player who was always making something happen. You break down the tape of him and it only gets better, with Williams really in a class of his own.

One thing that I've noticed is that when someone replies to a post with a quote the quote isn't at the top of the post. You have to scroll down to get to their reply.

well i just reinstalled vista on this machine last week and its finally completed its jillion os updates so its as current as it can be. i also updated every single driver to the most recent ones so if its a problem on this end its going to stay that way. unfortunately my reinstall happened exactly when you changed this sftw so i cant compare my previous configuration to whats going on now. but with all the drivers updated on a fresh os i frankly doubt its a problem here. but if there arent any more reports from other users then perhaps it is, idk

i will say its a little faster than what it was when i intially reported it. before the scroll was completely unuseable, now its at least very barely tolerable but still way too slow compared to what it was previously. the improvement might have been something you did, or it could be something resulting from one of the recent updates that has been automatically downloading since last week when i reinstalled vista

so theres nothing more i can do from this end. i dont want to wish more work on you guys but i kinda hope more users report similar symptoms cuz i would like to have my scroll back when i visit here. but if not, kay sarah sarah

btw, since scroll doesnt work for my anymore, i use the slider bar on the right side of the browser to go to the bottom of the thread

but when the slider gets to about the middle position (halfway) im already at the end of the thread. and if i move the slider lower than middle position then all i get is the background blue in the brower window. so it shoots way waay the hell past the actual end of the thread into this huge blank area of all blue. of course normally the slider should be at the bottom when you get to the end of the thread, but thats not whats happening here

is that happening for anybody else?

If anyone else is having the same type of issues that Meathead is having, please post them here so we can try to work out a solution.

I've only heard a few isolated cases that were having the scrolling issue.

btw this happens in both the regular and full shoutbox

same thing happened yesterday too. i cant remember if ive ever been able to post in this shoutbox or not (since the sftw was changed)

What is the exact version of the browser you are using? As well, what mouse do you have? If you look at the drivers for it, does it recognize it as the correct mouse, an incorrect one, or a generic?
Kyle Williams: “But when you go inside those lines, all those things fall by the wayside. If you’re not out there for the right reasons, and that’s to beat a man, win a football game, you’re not going to last very long. This game is whip or be whipped, and I don’t like being whipped.”"
