Bottle (adding this piece from here forward): Totally awesome... It defines arrogance right on the back label. The bottle and brew couldn't be better matched.

Pour: very mild, beige head with rainstorm microbead carbonation out of the Guiness mold, although not neraly as dense as the aforementioned and quickly dissipates.

    Color: dark amber to mahogany

Taste: Complex woody aromas from the get-go gives way to a suprisingly spicy initial taste, which was followed by coffee tones, and then an oakey finish that lingered. This was a very complex and unique brew that suprised with something new on every gulp.

Drinkability: even with all the complexities of this brew, it has suprisingly easy drinkability. I assume this is due to lower carbonation and the oak chip brewing process, but whatever the reason... a definate winner.

coastal rating: A- - Sunday late summer barbeque beer. Break out the ribs and fresh corn and enjoy!
This is usually my beer of choice for Bills games at the bar where I watch - that is until later in the season when they come out with Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale.

I've had many Buds before my friend, but only when it was the beer of last resort.

Well this one will appeal to coastal's 43%....

Easy drinking and smooth, with a sweet strawberry taste. The strawberry compliments the zesty fruitiness of the wheat beer and the result is a natural, soft and refreshing drink that is simply delicious. Made with 70% white beer and 30% fruit juice, this beer is a completely different experience. This has been described as a ‘strawberry smoothie with bite’ (Time Out magazine). An excellent accompaniment with spicy asian foods and great for desert drizzled over ice cream or added as an ingredient into ice cream or sorbet!

    It's actually pretty good.

    Wow... God's nectar!

    Two Hearted Ale

    http://www.bellsbeer.com/index.php/brands.html

Bottle: Artwork not overtly or even indirectly tied to the name of the beer. There may be some direct reference there that I am missing but anything with a fish is somehow tied to the coast. I love this bottle.

Pour: solid pour with good carbonation that continues to add to the attraction of this beer. Also has a strong head that maintains it's strength well into the glass.

Color: Beautiful golden color that is clear. In your dreams, this is what beer is supposed to look like.

Taste: This is where this beer takes over. Initial aroma is complex but not overwhelming... it left me with the question of "what may happen here?" Initial hoppy bitterness is quickly replaced with a citrus wash. There was a sugar sweetness that was part of that citrus as well. The after taste is what was awesome for me. It wasn't a back of the throat dryness or bitterness... it was more of a spiced bread taste that smelled of fresh cardamon and cloves.

Drinkability: incredibly drinkable. If I had a six of this chilled, I'd keep going back over and over in a very urgent manner.

coastal rating: A+ - This quite frankly was the most interesting and one of the best brews I have ever tasted. I was literally blown away. Great beer. Spiked needs to do some Sri Lankan cooking and knock a few of these back in the process and get back to us. Get your Indian groove on with Two Hearted Ale!

    A Florida Lager?

    Native Lager

    http://freshbeerinc.com/products.html

Bottle: Sun... check. Water... check... Sea grass... check... fish... check... Alligator... check! There is no denying it is Florida.

Pour: Fair head that lasted after the initital pour, but not long after. Unremarkable carbonation.

    Color: Looked like beer.

Taste: Tasted like beer. For a Florida brew... you'd think you at least get some citrus out of it... Nada!

Drinkability: I guess you could drink it, but then again and like uppy pointed out you can drink Budweiser too.

coastal rating: D+ - It's beer, but aside from the label, this brew does nothing to represent my home state.

Sorry K, Great Lakes Blackout Stout crushes it. That's my go-to stout.

Frankly, so does Southern Tier Creme Brulee which I had on the same night as the Okocim. A different sort of dark beer... basically a dessert beer. A lot pricier, but a LOT better.

I happen to dig Baltic Porters more than the English version, and I dig English porters more than stouts. And the Okocim was the best baltic porter i've ever had.

its a matter of taste, really.

when trying new ales, i suggest clearing the pallet w/ with a pilsner or wheat beer first... the taste of a really good porter or stout will be covered up if you were drinking equally strong beer just before.

you don't want to drink wine first either, it will kill the taste of the beer.

but i will have to try that great lakes. i've seen that a bunch of times but never picked it up.

Uppy, if you weren't such a damn pure Southerner at heart, I'd dislike you.

But you fill the part so well, I can't help but like you.

Oh, BTW, I spent a semester abroad in Belgium a few years back...

try Grimbergen Dubbel, Duvel and Delirium Noel.

If you can, drink them out of their own specially formed glasses. I know...its yuppy and I find myself lame doing it, but it really does enhance the flavor.

The Bells Two-Hearted Ale hangover made me fall down in the shower the next morning, rip down my shower curtain, and then get sent home from work after being an hour late because i "didn't look well"

They serve it in 22oz draft form at my bar.
