Peters is the Sabres' new union representative. He replaced defenseman Jay McKee, who left for the St. Louis Blues.
Of course, with the collective-bargaining agreement only one year old, Peters won't have much heavy lifting to do.
Peters said his election to the oftentimes thankless position came about because veteran defenseman Teppo Numminen nominated him as the lone candidate. Everyone quickly voted Peters into office.
As Peters explained this, Numminen came strolling through the dressing room and past Peters' stall.
"Hey, Teppo, why did you nominate me anyway?" Peters asked.
"Because nobody wants to do it," Numminen said before heading out the door.
