I definantly wouldnt mind us keeping him, he is a great goaltender and could be a number 1 on 50% of NHL teams but also I wouldnt want to see us lose this guy for nothing in the offseason.

*It has long been rumored that Buffalo Sabres goaltender Martin Biron might be dealt during this season, but recent reports out of Buffalo suggest otherwise.
Biron has handled his demotion as backup to Ryan Miller with class and is no longer requesting a trade. He's also telling the local media that he enjoys playing for the Sabres and his family is happy living in the Buffalo area. Biron might even attempt to re-sign with the club rather than test next summer's unrestricted free-agent market.

It's possible Sabres GM Darcy Regier could shop Biron during the season as the market for goalies opens up, but there was plenty of trade speculation surrounding Biron last season, yet Regier wisely retained him.

With Miller and Biron giving the Sabres one of the best goalie tandems in the league Regier could decide once again to keep it intact. *

Well, he's got the competitive fire of a back-up down pat.

Yes I agree with you. It helped us big time last year when Miller got hurt. Marty filled in and did a great job. They are a great combination. :)

I would love to see Biron here and if he's willing to play 20-30 games a season on a winning team then GREAT! I think he's changed his tune since he sees how close the Sabres are to winning a cup.

it would be awesome to keep him, but i can't really see him turning down a move to be #1.

He wants the Cup, this is where to be.

I think he'd rather try to win a cup in the crease instead of on the bench. if a good offer comes from a team that is a good goalie away from a run at the cup, Marty will want to go. There's no market for goalies so there's no reason for him to request a trade

I think he has toned down the trade talk because the season started and this is his team now and he doesnt want to cause any distractions. I have to say Marty has been nothing less than one of the classiest players this team has ever had. I know Miller is primed to be a greta goalie in this league for years to come but its too bad that Marty couldnt be consistant when he was our number 1 goalie

If Marty wants to stay here long term as a #1b goalie who gets around 25-30 games a season splitting with Miller I say keep him, even for the price of $2 million. A top flight backup can prove to be invaluable to us like he was last season. Yes Marty deserves to be a starter, if but he loves being here and may want to stay then why not keep him? He's better than any other backup we could sign reasonably or trade for at the same price.

I agree about the class thing, but I really don't think the consistancy argument is fair. Last year, both Miller and Biron had a team in front of them that was about 50x better than any team that Biron started for from 2001-2004. There's really no comparison. Remember, in the games that Miller started those years, though they weren't that many, he got lit up pretty badly too (in 2004, 6-0 vs the Islanders, and 7-2 vs Detroit). I'm not harping on Ryan Miller, but those Sabres teams would make almost any goaltender look worse than he really is, except maybe a Hasek or a Brodeur in their primes, who could literally carry a team on their backs. Actually, Biron was one of the main reasons that the Sabres climbed back into playoff contention in 2004. I'm not saying Biron is better than Miller because he isn't, but the drop-off between the two is not that big.

Miller was also pretty young when he got lit up in 2004

I know that. I said I wasn's slighting Miller. The fact was, no matter who was in goal those years, Miller, Biron, or Noronen, the team just couldn't win. Last year, all three of them played very well, even Noronen in his brief stint. When 3 goaltenders who all looked shaky in previous years all have an outstanding season, I think you have to contribute alot of that to the team around them.

Sabres are'nt going to get rid of Marty, at least not for the 2006-2007 campaign. The guys a bargain. We play 19 games from March 2 to end of season ,apr8, and six times in that period we play back to back games. I think as soon as the Sabres saw that scehdule they knew they were gonna keep him, free agency be damned, they are going to need him, and are not likely to find someone near as good at that price. Trust me, I watch our $5.M goalie Theodore, here in Denver, and I'd take Marty hands down.

I really hope Marty is happy, and I hope the fans show him lots of love.

Marty should def. stay for as long as possible.
Although I'm not going to get into this argument again, I dont think Miller is that much better than Biron, and he is not as good in some aspects as well.
Regardless of past seasons, Marty did well last season, and not only filled in well for Miller when he got injured, but he essentially did better, and got the team started on their winning ways that they carried till the end. I also give credit to miller in this because the instant he came back he was on fire, 10x better than he was before he was injured, and at that point is when we had the two great goalies that we have now. I dont know how it happened, im not saying marty going in for a while helped miller, it just was a miracle of sorts. Marty also is the best coach Miller can have, although Miller may have skill, he doesnt have the 10 yrs expercience of Marty, and im sure Miller has tought Biron a few things as well, especially in the SO/1-on-1 area.
So the main point im trying to make is that i belive that Miller would not be the goalie he is today without Marty and Marty wouldnt be as solid as he is today without Miller. Both Have improved temendously in 05/06: Miller from where he was inthe beginning of 05 and Marty since he was a starter not doing so well.
