I figured my barometer for how seriously I'd take BSI's power rankings was where the Blue Jackets were ranked. And at 14, I think you guys are right on the money. Great job.

I like them, but I'd flip flop the Sabres and Ducks at this point still. I also think the Avs are better than a number of teams ahead of them, especially the Canucks who they just beat, but overall nice job man.

actually, i may stand corrected. i just checked the Fox Sports PWR-RNK and we are atop that list as well...
im still waiting to see where TSN positions us in their PWR-RNK'ing and also what we do against 2 pretty good teams this weekend.
GO SABS GO!

not bad, buffalo could definitely be number 1 right now. they have played 3 tough teams and won all three.

Sharks are the best team right now IMO.

I based it a little of schedule, Buffalo played 3 tough teams and won, the Ducks played some rather easy teams and just barely got by, same for San Jose, except Calgary
BR I do agree the Avs are better than some of the teams ahead of them, but I base it on win/losses and schedule. They will go up I believe.
Scary Good

Let's see....
The Sabres opened the regular season by beating the Cup champs in Carolina, then they beat the #1 team in the East last season, and a Montreal team that lost in 6 games to the Cup champs in the playoffs last season.
The Sharks started their season off by squeezing out a victory over the mighty Blues, 5-4. Then they beat Garth Snow's Islanders 2-zip. Big whoop. They beat the Flames the other night.
The Ducks went 3 and 0 against 3 teams who didn't make the playoffs last year.
How are they more impressive than the Sabres? The Sabres aren't even playing 60 minutes of hockey and they're 3-0. And they know they should be playing better, as do we, and how scary must that be for the rest of the league? It's only 3 games, but the Sabres have had more difficult tests than anyone else has thus far.
Opening night at the 'Canes Cup Ceremony? Are you freaking kidding me? To go in there and beat them, remembering exactly how last season ended, just may be the biggest statement that this team had to make in order for their regular season to be successful.
I have a feeling the playoffs won't be any different.

i think you dismissed beating calgary a bit too easily there. did you see any of that game? The sharks were impressive.
The REAL Sabres

Don't forget the Sabres essentially tied Carolina and Montreal. I wouldn't recognize postgame breakaway contests.

Yes, I watched the 1st and some of the 2nd period. They do look impressive. But look at their other two opponents. We're talking about 3 games here. The Sabres have faced tougher opponents. That's a fact.

Essentially. Yes. But at the end of the season, when we have more wins than Carolina and Montreal, "essential" doesn't matter.
That, and the fact that the Sabres have played some pretty sloppy periods of hockey against some of the league's best teams, and they've still come out with all possible points.
