Today's game is huge, we can't allow detroit to get some confidence, we must squash them. We need the 2-0 lead heading back to Detroit w/ a 0shaky Randy Johnson ready to go for Game 3.

today will be a good game...i agree with what david justice was saying that Moose will work these tigers hard...they are free swingers and it is perfect for his style...verlander is a rook and he has pitched more innings than ever before...his velocity is down and i think he might have a tough game today...A-Rod comes through today with a big hit...just a hunch

That was an awful loss and now we have to swat out this series insetad of cruising like we should have. Matsui misplayed the thames ball which led to a run and the lead for det, Mosse was typical big game Moose- not bad, not great will always keep his team and the opponent in the game, the bats went silent in big spots once again led by mr. clutch who since game 5 of the 2004 ALCS is 4 for 35(.114) w/ ZERO RBI(10 games).

I dont think pitching Randy is a good idea tonight
If hes not healthy this game could be over by the 3rd even if we shell the shit out of K.Rogers, which we should, when Randy is bad he is real bad.
Plus I've kind of had my fill w/ the offensive line up. I'd rather have Melky in Left. I want Torre to grow a set and either sit Sheff or Matsui

I am so sick of this team, it's an absolutel humiliation to be playing the way we are. We can't score a run off KENNY ROGERS? the same man that gave up1 1 earned runs in 7 Ip for us in '96? the same man that gave up 9 ER in 12 IP for the Mets in '99? This is a disgrace. I am so sick of out vaunted lineup coming up small in the playoffs, we need PITCHING!!!! AROd Gone, Shef Gone, Matsui Gone, Giambi Gone- replace those overpaid players w/ some quality SP and middle relief. We have Wang and Philip Huges coming up, we should have a great 1-2 punch but get us more than the choker Mussina or 90 yr old Randy johnson.
After we blow this series and are disgraced worse than ever(yes this is worse than 2004 and it's worse than the late 80s-early 90s or the late 60s early 70s) we need MAJOR changes, enough w/ going after bats that don't perform in october, I don't care what #s they put up in the reg season, we need pressure performers and we don't have them now.
I wish Sheff and matsui never came back from injury(I know Matsui has hit but he is terrible in LF), we were far better w/ Melky in LF and we' be better Wilson/Phillips playing 1B and Giambi DHing.
our season comes down to the 5-6 inning man jaret Wright. he's pitched well but in oir biggest game of the year he's going for us? I'm sick of baseball, I'm tired of investing in an entire season only to see them choke in october.

The worst thing to happen to this team was Sheff and matsui coming back. We had a good thing going and matsui, while hitting well, is playing his usually subpar D which cost us Game 2. I want Wilson or Phillips at 1B w/ Giambi at DH and melky in LF.

Melky is in the lineup today, Giambi is out, and A-Rod is hitting 8th. Personally, I'd have benched Rodriguez, but Joe T. did a good job here.
If the Yankees force a Game 5, they will win this series.

Man, do I feel your pain. I was watching the game with my Dad last night and we were basically saying the same stuff. Compared to the Yankee teams of a few years ago that had great chemistry and players that went all out to win, this team is an ***** disgrace.
I want Rodriguez off the team; I want Sheffield and Giambi off the team, Johnson, etc.
If the Yankees don't win the WS this year, blow up the ***** roster. I'm tired of this crap.
It all could have been avoided if Aaron bleeping Boone didn't play a game of pickup basketball...

The only problem with wanting all of them off the team with the exception of Sheffield is that you have to find someone willing to take on those awful contracts. Once again pitching rules all in the playoffs and I figured the Yanks would have trouble, just not this early but I'm not complaining.

We have too many chokers on the team, the core is now mostly chokers and that needs to be cleansed.
I am so sick of this team, the worst thing that happened to us was sheff and matsui coming back runing what we had going for most of the season w/o them.
I am not in any mood to start thinking about next year, I am sick of baseball right now and sick of this team and I'm tired of investing my time and getting my hopes up every year. I'd rather they suck and miss the playoffs like Boston has done most of their history.
The only think I know I want right now is I want the following players gone somehow someway:
ARod
Sheff
Matsui
Giambi
Mussina
Johnson
and I love Joe and don't think the bats choking was his fault(though I do fault him for inserting sheff and matsui back in the lineup) but it's time for a change.

Did any Yankee fans honestly think they would win the World Series with that pitching staff? If anyone thought they would just roll though these other teams all with better pitching then that just shows some arrogance and ignorance, really though deep down in your heart of hearts did you have any doubt that sometihng like this would happen?

The numbers are numbing. Six straight years of playoff failure. A $200 million payroll going home after only one round. It should make some of you smile to realize that since the end of the 2000 season, George Steinbrenner has spent $1.2 billion in player salaries (plus luxury taxes) and he's 0 for 6 in championships. The Yankees were 3-1 favorites to beat the Tigers in the first round, then got swept three straight after winning the first game.

So How did the RS playoff series go?
If I were you I'd be more worried about how the "Boy Wonder" Theo is going to fix a team that was an utter joke the second half of the season.

Absolutely 100%, the pitching was not the problem. We have more than enough pitching to win, it was the bats failing to show up AGAIN.

Lets talk about the Sox not making the playoffs, when you have Kason Gabbard Julian Tavarez and Kyle Snyder in the startin rotation not to mention losing almost every starter at some point after August including Manny missing the last month what are you going to do. what would the Yankees do if with one month left they lost Wang ,Johnson lose Jeter for a few weeks then have Mo go on the DL and to top it off lose say Johnny Damon and Giambi?
As far as dismantling the WS team they let Pedro go (which looks pretty good now) Millar,Mueller,D-Loweand Damon last year (which maybe was a mistake but we'll see how he is in yr 3 and 4 of that contarct) It's more of the new pickups Theo made like renteria, clement etc..... Face it the Yanks not only make bad moves but then get stuck with them b/c they give them anything they want. Have fun with another year of Randy johnson b/c he will show up next year just for the payday not to mention you'll probably have A-Rod back so we shall see whom has the tougher go of it this off season. Don't be a blind homer be real.

Make all the excuses you want
You missed the playoffs b/c Beckett sucked (I dont care how many wins he had, he sucked) Curt was good but not great, You traded away Arryo, You aquired C.Crisp instead of resigning Damon, Did not sign any lefties for the BP, Stood pat at the Deadline, and Theo's attempt at making a defensive team in the AL failed
Injuries happen good GM's prepare for them and the Yankees did
You have the second highest payroll in baseball and you missed the playoffs by 11 Games. No matter how you slice it thats a horrible job by that team and Theo. So I suggest you should take off the Homer glasses and realize your are in no posistion to talk any shit

I would like to start off by saying that I hate both the Yankees and the Red Sox. I'm actually an Angels fan (yea I know, this year sucked)
Red Sox fans piss me off more though when they pick on the Yankees about there Pay Roll. You guys do realize you have the second highest payroll in MLB right? You look pretty stupid when you call out the number 1 team. Some of you are acting like they are working with a Marlins pay roll.
It pains me to do it but I agree w/ the Yankee fans on this one, the Red Sox are in no posistion to be saying anything. Finishing 11 games out with that payroll is pretty bad and Theo did do a bad job this year. He has tinkered way to much. I will agree with Red Sox fans on one level the Yankees should be much better w/ the amount of money they have spent and there overpaying is killing them

Ok now tell me the difference in Payroll between the Yanks and Sox? Bout 70 million, i guess that buys you a whole lotta backups. Yes injuries happen but what happened too the Sox in the last month was just a cartoon too many to overcome want the list. Starting catcher/captain, Starting left fielder, Starting right fielder, starting shortstop, backup catcher. Our number 3 and four starters our closer oh and Ortiz for about 2 weeks as well there is a point where any team cannot overcome injuries and the point was reached by the Sox. Do you really think having Arroyo and Damon would have saved us from what happened, highly doubful. I will talk as much shit as I want b/c your team with the HIGHEST payroll ever could not even take it to a game 5!! Once again what I have been trying to summize is that yes the Sox and Theo have a ton of work to do but after what happened Cashman's job is a whole lot tougher b/c your stuck with all those overpriced chokers and on top of that Torre looks to be gone and why? I'm sure once the shock wears off from getting bouced you'll be able to take a step back and look at the situation fairly. I've had about 6 weeks to do so.

It is certainly amazing at the lack of success the Yankees have had after spending money like they do. They have so many all stars but come playoff time they have a ton of guys that just choke all at once.
I can't believe people really thought ARod was a better player than Pujols for a while. It's not even close and hasn't been close for a long time. Pujols hits balls over the train tracks in Houston when the game is on the line. ARod goes 0 for the series when it's on the line for the Yankees.

I have already stated many times that the roster we have now is the roster we will have in 2007 w/ the only changes being maybe a defensive first basemen and maybe 1 or 2 new pitchers. Outside of that it will be the same.

Anything can happen in a 5 game series. I know the Yankees had a dissapointing series, but that doesn't mean you can come in and talk crap. The Red Sox were just a joke in the 2nd half. Don't give me the crap that your players got injured and that's why they didn't win, because our top 2 OF and our 2B we're out for a chunk of the season. And by the way, Aug. 18 thru Aug. 21 of 2006 might be the beginning of a rebuilding session for the Red Sox.

Hell no I didn't mind, but it seems you do. Your Yankees have spent 1.2 BILLION on players the past 6 years and how many rings to show for it? Don't you think it's time Cashman go in a different direction? Granted Theo has drop some green on players but for the most part alot of that salary was left over from the old regime. In the past 3 years the biggest contacts the sox have given out was to Schilling and Ortiz and that's 25.5 million combined. So the Sox are going more in the building the farm system direction and spending here and there where needed (and there are a lot of needs this offseason) notice they didn't make the Abreu trade mostly b/c who wants to take on that 15 million for next year (just the Yankees) and yes he is talented but spend somewhere else, maybe pitching.

The yankees and yankee fans deserve some grief for this team but it would be one thing if these Sox fans showed their faces all year but they ran and hid after we beat the crap out of them and easily won this division again. Sure we choked, we sucked and we should have won it all this year but to hear crap from a team that finished in THIRD place, a team that Sox fans were calling the next dynasty after the fluke of 2004 that hasn't even won a palyoff game since then. This nonsense needs to stop, if you come here and have disucssions when your tream struggls you have every right to enter this thread but when you run and hide after your team sucks I don't want to hear you now- you lost that right.

By the way, did I come into the Sox thread in August to rub it in after you were beat up? Did I gloat after you were swept last year? I didn't even gloat after we beat the Sox in 2003 but being the marquee team ina ll of sports people always want to gloat when the Yanks are beaten. That's the life of being a fan of the premiere franchise in all of sports- the franchise every franchise aspires to be.

It's nothing against you personally but you are a Yankees fan and shall be lumped in with the rest of them, sorry. It wasn't really hiding I took my lumps read the Sox thread after the 5 game sweep. Just after that what was there to talk about as a Sox fan ,really oh wow tavarez was solid last night please. They were out of the race after that and to be honest I'm pretty fairwith Yankee fans and did give them enough credit so when they fail I take some kind of joy in that being a Sox fan and you a Yankee fan you would be straight up lying if you said you take no joy in the sox failing. As far as third place goes big freking whoop after 8/31 this team pretty much played prospects and mind you the Yanks haven't won jack sh#t in 6 years and the reason the Yanks are the premire franchise is due to the past more than the present. Ruth,Gehrig,DiMaggio,Mantle and the list goes on forever it's the mystique of the past that make the franchise the most popular in the world, not trying to take too much away from the jeter's or rivera's but when people think of the Yankees they think of those teams from the 20's-60's.

Sure I like to see the Sox fail but I don't go rubbing it in every time you fail. i didn't go into the Sox thread after we embarrassed you in the 5 game sweep. I didn't crow about your sweep last year, I didn't crow about us beating you in '03. I don't mind is a fan is in a thread all year and they take their lumps when the team does well but to hide then come out after the yanks lose is gutless.

The Sox, outside of the fluke of '04, having won jack sh#t in 88 years- what's your point? Our "jack sh#t" years have still been better than 90% of the teams in the league. that's how great the Yankees are that when this decade they win 7 straight div titles, win 1 WS, win 3 AL pennants and yet we have done "jack sh#t". Don't you wish the Sox could do as little as the Yanks?

have you followed baseball the past decade? 6 AL pennants and 4 World Championships. No team is close, the '98 yanks are quite possibly the best team of all time(undoubtedly the best of this generation). The yanks are and always will be the premiere franchise in all of sports.

When you drive from home do you ever get where your going? It seems you like to go in circles, please really READ my last post. Like I said nothing against the Jeter's or Rivera's but if you ask the average fan whom the 1st basemen was on the 98' yanks or the 27' Yanks who do you think they'll name 9 out of 10 times? Also division titles are just that a title so someone can hang a meaningless banner somewhere, pardon me but have any WS champs in the last 4 yrs won thier division? Ask Atlanta about how meaninful division titles are.

So you'd rather miss the playoffs than win the division? Who cares about the average fan? what does that ahve to do w/ anything? we don't have a WS title in the last 5 years but we have 5 div titles and 2 AL pennants(the only AL team to reach the WS twice since '01 and obviosuly the only one to make it 3 tims this decade) so while we are "bad" we are still better than 90% of MLB including the Sox as they proved that '04 was just a fluke.
