AHAHAHA good luck Mets

ATLANTA -- Pedro Martinez is out for the postseason after an exam Thursday showed the New York Mets ace has a torn tendon in his left calf muscle.

The Mets, who won their first NL East title since 1988 with Martinez battling injuries most of the season, won't have the three-time Cy Young Award winner at all in the playoffs.

Martinez returned to New York after getting knocked around badly in his final start of the regular season Wednesday night, a 13-1 loss to Atlanta. An MRI showed a tear in the left calf -- different from the right calf injury that recently put him on the disabled list for a month and was thought to be his major concern

That def hurts them

There starting pitching isnt great to begin w/ and w/out that Ace its going to be difficult for them. The place its going to hurt them the most is there BP. They are going to have to go to it earlier than expected and if they get overworked they are going to be in real trouble.

The NL is so weak though they still have a great shot at going to the WS

As far as I'm concerned it's a good thing he won't try and pitch, because it was obvious he just couldn't do it. Obvioulsy not having a healthy pedro hurts, but the bullpen is so deep that I think they can overcome the weakness of the starting pitching. Not only do they have Mota, Heilman and Wagner anchoring the 7th, 8th, and 9th innings, but they also have some quality situational relievers as well. The key for the mets is to keep it close through 6 innings and make it a matchup of the bullpens.

Looks like Theo made the right move not resigning him for 4 years.
