CNN) -- The San Diego Chargers' Steve Foley was shot Sunday by an off-duty policeman who had followed him to his home after noticing Foley's car driving erratically, a sheriff's investigator in San Diego, California, said.
The 30-year-old, nine-year NFL veteran was shot twice; his wounds are not believed to be life-threatening, said San Diego Sheriff's Department Lt. Dennis Brugos.

Another person who could have avoided being shot at if he had only called the Celebrity Drunk Bus.
Take note: if you've had one too many pops(and I don't mean soda)and you need a ride home,call 1-800-YAAGGHH!

The cop was 20 miles outside his jurisdiction? And following someone he believed to be drunk? If he REALLY thought he was drunk, he should have called in the marked cars, pulled him over, and done things right.
Fired warning shots into bushes? I'm betting that's not police procedure, either.
This looks to me like police harrassment of someone he thought got off too easy.

I'd love to see what kind of spin the cops put on this one. Talk about not following procedures. This story has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. Foley's done for the year according to ESPN.

What would you do if you were being followed by somebody, and then they pull out a gun? Anybody could say "I'm a police officer," but who knows if that idiot gung-ho cop made that clear...the point is that even if he did say it, why should he be believed? There are enough crazy people out there. The cop shoots the guy three times (according to Foley's agent) for "driving erratically?" If that behavior was protocol, I'd be shooting 10 people a day. I think he should have his badge taken away. This guy is a danger to society. Does he think he is Dirty Harry or some shit? If I was Foley, I'd sue. Cops have laws too. I think this guy should be charged with attempted murder. And why are they keeping the name of the officer secret? We have a right to know who it was.
The police report said that "the suspect acknowledged that he had been shot!" This "renegade" cop over-stepped his boundries by a mile...He thinks that he is above the law. No wonder I don't trust the cops.
I could see if someone was robbing a bank...an off-duty officer who is out of his jurisdiction would get involved, but I agree with Stealth. He should have called in the marked cars if he wanted to get involved. Who knows? Foley's career might be over, costing him millions. And for what?
The cop should be punished. Period. If we let this one go, we are opening ourselves up for it to happen again. We gotta start policing the police.
