Said that we(our age group) are going to have to pay for the war on Iraq, and that it is a waste...

I was thinking...

Why doesn't anybody kill Reagan for increasing the national debt from 1 trillion(accumulated from 1776) to 8 trillion in just 8 years to end the Cold War?

Isn't Bush doing the same thing?

Are you sure you heard your professor correctly?

Is it possible he/she said -- "like the war on Iraq, your age group is a waste"?

Good thing we have your back, Northwest.

At this point, when the prof says something like this, you are required to stand up and say, "Professor Douchebag, I rebuke you!"

You'll get extra credit.

NWF, Ronnie never put the national debt at eight trillion. Secondly Ronnie is long dead or did you miss his funeral a couple of years ago? Third Ronnie is hardly the reason for the national debt. See we used to pay off our debt until after WWII when we stopped. The Cold War was a multi billion dollar operation. Also he is right, our generation -more specifically our children's generation- will have to pay for this war. Dude if you can't keep up with the conversation you'll have to sit at the kiddie table.

I will now try, and probably fail, to help you understand something. First of all I think the debt was around 1.5 to 3 trillion by the time Reagan left office. Under Bush I it boomed to 4.5-5 trillion. Clinton, and a GOP controlled congress, actually got the debt to start rolling back. Its projected that by the time Bush leaves office the debt will be around 10 trillion. I'm to lazy to cite all my sources but this should help clarify things. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_public_debt

Phantom, the problem is you are using currency in your unsuccessfull attempt to explain this to NWF.

For example, rather than using "around 1.5 to 3 trillion ", "4.5-5 trillion" and "around 10 trillion", try putting the word "strokes" after it.

NWF can understand "strokes".

I was in school when Clinton came in and the going rate in '92 was:

Debt went from 1 trillion from the Founding to Reagan
8 years of Reagan: 3 Trillion

Now it is at about 8 trillion, expected to go to 10 trillion by the time Bush leaves office.

Cheney said it at the beginning of the current administration though: "The Reagan Presidency proved it, public debt does not matter."

well its kinda of like something a friend of mine said. Someone owes you 1000 bucks you own them. If someone owes you a million dollars they own you.

My brother-in-law with an MBA said, "when you owe the bank a thousand dollars and can't pay them back, that is a problem for you. When you owe the bank a billion dollars and can't pay them back, that is a problem for them."

So the winner and new champion is George W. Bush.
It's a shame but in twenty years if were here that will look like peanuts.

The no-tax-and-spend liberal neo-cons are doing the country in. When will this civil war within the Republican party go public so they can finish it off, both Dems. and Reps. can sift over the ashes, both parties can retrench, and people can know who to vote for again?

Well just because its current policy doesn't neccessarily mean its good policy.
