Drew Willy was at Pitt, but left because of playing time issues. He's a small bight spot on a terrible team. I watched him play last year (against Central Michigan I think) and he played really well.
UB just sucks so bad that he'll be overlooked, it would be sweet to have him come out of nowhere and end up making the NFL - I doubt it (highly).

Willy is a nice college QB, but that is about it. He wouldn't be able to start at a big school and has no chance to play football beyond UB.
I can't wait to see the train wrecks that will be Buffalo/Wisconson, Buffalo/Boston College and Buffalo/Auburn all on the road. But I think that some UB players are going to get seriously hurt in those games. Boys shouldn't be playing with men.

Well, how else would you build a program? Of course they are going to get killed, but at this point, they dont have much of a choice. They are getting a shitload of money for playing up there. Its the only way to be seen in college football is to start playing bigger oppoents. Temple, Rutgers and most of the MAC teams arent going to cut it.
I think its great they are playing those teams, it can only make them better. They might even hold their own and keep it somewhat close in the first half, who knows. I love what Coach Gill is doing, and I think its the best and only way to bring UB football up to par with the basketball program and so on.

Keep it close in the first half? I was at the game against Marshall when Leftwich put up 400+yrds passing by halftime. After the game it was so obvious how bad the team was that I've never bothered to go again (I went to UB so I didn't even have to pay to go). Getting destroyed is no way to build a program. When UB can win more 4 or 5 games in a season then maybe they can think about stepping up in class, but they haven't won more than 3 games since joining D1.

Drew willy is a solid QB, definatly bot a qb for a big name school but hes not that bad. I was at that game some his passes should have been caught, then his numbers would have been better.

Some of his decisions should not have been made too
and that long pas with the sick reception was a pretty good bail-out by the WR

DAMN! UB drops a heart breaker in 3 OTs @Bowling Green. Amazing special teams play blocking 1 Extra point and returning a kick for a TD. As for Drew Willy his numbers were...
21/32 for 134 yards. 0 TD 0 INT Another solid outing, no TDs this season still but also no INTs.

And again, another decent day for Willy, I dont know how the Bulls kept it this close, but still no INTs which is great.

BanditsRock11
October 7th, 2006, 5:32:10 PM
Game 5 VS. Ball St.
Willy was 27/39 for 327 2 TDs and 1 INT.
Willy was about the only Bull to really show up, but finally threw his first INT of the season as he was being drilled from the lack of protection.
BanditsRock11
October 20th, 2006, 5:52:34 PM
Game 6: VS. Miami (OH)
Willy was 13/23 for 174 2 TDs 3 INT
Not Willys best game, probably his worst. The lack of protection is terrible in his defense.
BanditsRock11
October 28th, 2006, 5:00:17 PM
GAME 7: @#18 Boston College
Willy was 13/25 for 82 yards and 2 INT
I think he fumbled a few times too. This was tough for anyone on UB to do much of anything. The lost 41-0, and had -11 rushing yards. That pretty much sums up the day for the Bulls against BC.
BanditsRock11
November 9th, 2006, 7:10:00 PM
GAME 8: VS. Kent St.
Drew Willy: DNP (Dislocated Thumb)
UB routed Kent, 41-14. Out scored them 38-0 in the second half, and had all 41 points unanswerd. No idea how that happend, especailly without Willy.

I thought Willy played but was hurt in that game?
Anyway its not that surprising, Paoli is a smarter QB.... gets the ball out of his hands and into the hands of his playmakers quickly. Willy holds the ball too long.

Drew Willy and the 2007 season.
Game 1: @Rutgers(L 38-3)
Willy 19/32 for 165.
Not a bad outting, no INTs, Willy is very smart with the ball, rarely throws INTs UB was just way over matched for their first game.
BanditsRock11
September 16th, 2007, 11:07:17 PM
Game 2: @Temple (W 42-7)
Willy 20/22 for 190 2 TDs and 1 INT and also ran for 26 yards.
Great game for Willy and the Bulls. He set a UB record for completion % and it was the 3rd best ever in the MAC. Excellent game by UB.
BanditsRock11
September 16th, 2007, 11:10:15 PM
Game: 3 @Penn St(L 45-24)
Willy 28/39 330 yards 1 TD 1 INT
Not a bad game for Willy at all, especially since it was against one of the top defenses in the country. Put up alot yards, and only one pick. Solid, solid solid for Drew Willy. Excellent showing by the Bulls in general, they could do some damage in the MAC this year.

BanditsRock11
September 26th, 2007, 1:48:22 PM
Game 4: Vs. Baylor (L 34-21)
Willy 29/46 for 276 1 TD 3 INTs
Probably one of Willys worst games I can remeber. Not that he played extremely awful, but he wasnt himself, especially with the picks, which hes thrown at an limited amount over the years. The one INT was the reciever running the wrong route though. Still it was a Big 12 defense, so they were not bad for what we'll see in the MAC.
Big game against a tough Ball St squad for Willy this week, that could easily be 3-1 insted of 2-2 with a close loss to Nebraska.

Game 5: @Ball St (L 49-14)

Nothing special here. Overall bad game for UB on everyones part.
BanditsRock11
October 15th, 2007, 11:18:59 AM
Game 6: VS. Ohio (W 31-10)
Willy 10/19 for 118.
Again, nothing special, but UB got the win on and their RB James Starks had a huge day so there was alot of running. However, no mistakes and a great comepletion % by Willy.
BanditsRock11
October 15th, 2007, 11:22:41 AM
Game 7: VS. Toledo (W 43-33)
Willy was 8/16 for 172 3 TDs.
Nice job by Willy and the Bulls offense for a huge MAC win. Willy still completing 50% of his passes (lowest % of the year) which is real solid and a nice touch with 3 TDs.
The real story of the day was again, UB running back James Starks. 244 yards rushing with 3 TDs, hes gone off. Big game @Syracuse this weekend.
BanditsRock11
October 21st, 2007, 11:53:33 PM
Game 8: @Syracuse(L 20-12)
Willy was 32/48 for 286
No TDs but no picks, and alot of competions. Not a bad game but, UB could have taken this. Oh well. On to more important MAC games now.
BanditsRock11
November 4th, 2007, 11:45:27 PM
Game 9 VS. Akron (W 26-10)
Willy was 11/14 for 125 3 TDs
Excellent accuarcy for Willy, as usual. 3 Tds were a nice touch, great game for Drew and the Bulls.
BanditsRock11
November 4th, 2007, 11:48:40 PM
Game 10: @Miami (OH) (L 31-28)
Willy was 33/45 217 2 TDs
Another good game for the Jr. QB, but UB came up short. Great game, and tough one on the road with on of the top MAC teams, shows where UB really stands. Theres still hope for a MAC title, so anything can happen.

GAME 1: VS. UTEP (W 42-17)
Willy was flawless tonight. He went 10-16 for 221 yards and 4 TDs. He was hitting his receivers in stride all night, and on 2 of the TD passes. T
he entire offense was awesome, with UB running back James Starks going for 179 yards on the ground! Also, Brandon Thermulis also ran for over 100 yards and had 2 TDs. Awesome game!

seeing that I see UB losing at Pittsburgh and Missouri, they had to have this game and the Army game to split the non-conference schedule. They will go at least 6-2 in the MAC this year and an 8-4 UB team I am almost certain would get the MAC bid to play in the International Bowl in Toronto and that is if they don't win the MAC outright.

In college football power rankings, UB is somewhere in the 80s among all division 1 teams. Before Turner Gill arrived, they were close to dead last. There are 120 some division 1 schools. UB is still not very good in the overall picture, but they are experiencing a meteoric rise, and figure to coninue rising up the rankings this season. I wouldn't be surprised to see them somewhere in the 50s by the end of the season. They could contend for the MAC title. Know any other QBs who came out of the MAC? How about Ben Roethlesberger?

How bout dem Bulls! One win on the season and only down by a point at the half against a strong team!
Too bad the refs don’t want us to win. And I’m totally not the guy to bitch about calls but this has been ridiculous.
TigerJ
September 6th, 2008, 8:54:10 PM
I agree on the refereeing. The called a personal foul on UB that was totally bogus. There was a helmut to helmut that was legit, but later the ref I think made up one because it wasn't there. They also gave a reception to Pitt when the receiver had stepped out of bounds before the reception.
BanditsRock11

GAME 2: @Pitt(L 27-16)
Willy was 21/34 for 223 1 TD 1 INT
He played well, threw the pick late in the 4th, trying a force the ball in a small window, which he usually never does. It was different to see Willy do that. He hadn't throw an INT in over 220 attempts before that!
Still a good showing on the road for Willy and UB against a Pitt team who was ranked last week and desperate for a win.
Huge game against Temple Saturday, thats for sure as UB open MAC play.
bozman949
September 9th, 2008, 11:48:14 PM
Yeah, good showing for UB, they should have had that game - or atleast been within 7 late. They ran the ball & stopped the run very effectively in the beginning, but that petered out as the game progressed. Then the mental errors came in, combined with questionable officiating - you get an 11 pt loss.

In general Drew Willy seems to be a smart QB with a good arm. His main drawback seems to be a pronounce lack of mobility. I didn't really look too closely at his release, whether quick or slow. I wouldn't be surprised if it's pretty slow.

GAME 3: VS. Temple(W@ 30-28)

Obviously this was the hailmary touchdown pass Willy threw. Besides that he had another solid win to lead the Bull to their 1st MAC win.

September 26th, 2008, 8:12:58 PM
GAME 4: @Missouri(L 42-21)
Will was 22/40 for 237 2 TDs 1 INT
Not a bad game at all for the Bulls overall. Only down 6 at halftime, and really hung in the game, kept it close enough to make Mizzou drop in the standings, and were the first team to hold Missouri under 50 points.
Willy was very solid as usual, just by looking at the stats. Not bad in a hostile environment.
Biggest game of the year tomorrow up in Mt. Pleasant, MI. CMU is a top tier MAC team, should tell alot about the Bulls!

Game 5: @Central Michigan(L 27-25)
Willy was 23/33 for 270 2 TDs
UB lost on after they had a chance on a game winning last second field goal, which the UB kicker hit the upright on.
Willy was efficient and smart with the ball, as usual completing 70% of his passes.
He now stands at 12 TDs and 3 INTs on the season with a QB rating of 150.1

Willy had an average day, nothing to really note about this performance.

Great comeback win, with Willy making some great passes late and was very accurate all day. Good to get back on the winning stride too. HUGE divisional game tomorrow night on ESPNU @Ohio.

HUGE overtime win for the Bulls, and Willy played well. He also became UBs all time leader in passing yards, and touchdowns. He has a great TD/INT ratio, of 18-4, and hasn't thrown an INT in the last 4 games (All UB wins) and only has 1 in his last 6 games played. 1. Re-sign Hamdan
2. Sign a veteran backup from a decent FA class (not a big name)
3. If he doesn't get drafted (50/50?), sign Willy (probably keep him on practice squad)
