I think it sucks come World series /All Star play. We only had it in regular season, once All-Stars began, if you didn't start, you sat. You have to play 3 consecutive defensive outs, and bat once now.

If your all-star team needs to hide players on the bench you ain't going very far.

btw, my little brother won the NY state championship in the Little League World Series on the OP team. They lost to New Jeresey for North East regional title. I taught him everything he knew about baseball.

they are little kids, who does it hurt to have them all play. going to something like that is a once in a lifetime opportunity

rabid competition at young ages is a result of crappy parents who sucked at baseball and want to live through their kids.

let the kids play during little league. there is time for competition.

Not a bad idea.

But a different question: If I remember right, the Little League council was planning to consider new rules that could limit exactly how many pitches were thrown in a game as well as how many days of rest a pitcher had to have before he went back to the mound again in order to ensure that a. pitchers aren't getting injuries in their throwing arms & shoulers, and b. force the coaches/managers to develop more pitchers. Right now,the rules aren't in effect for the LLWS and its qualifying tourneys-only a small fraction of LL.

Here's the question: Should they be?

i was reading in our paper today that the families of these kids have spent around 10k between last minute airline tix, food, and hotels. Probably overestimated but even if it was half that..

i wouldnt want to pay that kind of money if my kid wasnt going to play, i doubt many people would.

one rule should be in place..no curveballs. that picth is particularly dangerous for kids to be throwing

+1 again.

throwing more fastballs (provided they are taught how to throw a fastball) builds arm strength. curveballs tear the arm up.

I agree on the curveballs, still disagree on the play rule. I don't care how much money they paid, if some 12th man, or whatever number, comes in for his 3 outs and makes 3 errors to lose the game, someone's getting a beatdown later. They have to learn sometime, I think 12-13 is old enough to start. What are they gonna do when they get to HS? That's age 14. I think in All-Stars at 12-13 is just as good.

Player: "But Coach, when do I get my 3 outs?"

Coach: "Sit the F@#*& down, and get me my my chew!" :D

I agree, when I was 12 I made the All-Star team and was pitcher, and threw all fastballs because I was told by my father and coaches that throwing curveball so early could cause serious injury or even end my playing career.

do you honestly believe kids would fly from around the world on their own dime to come if they werent gonna get to play? the LLWS would not exist

When I played Little League, there wasn't a "must play rule" on any all-star level. I don't think we even had a rule like that in the City Tournament.

These kind of rules, in my opinion, really do suck. They are starting to pussify everything regarding kids. The only design I can see in a "must play" stipulation is to not hurt any kids' feelings. Tough crap. I recall a rule not too long ago where a coach would get ejected from the game if his team was winning by too many points. That's ridiculous.

I also had a personal experience that really drove this point home. I was working one night, and a customer came in with her kid, and the kid, about 8-9 years old, was wearing a soccer uniform. Assuming they had just come from a game, I asked the kid "Did your team win tonight?" The mom looked at me like I ought to be committed and said, "We don't have winners and losers in our league." I was really shocked and asked, "How is that possible?" Turns out they didn't even keep score. Now, I know that to a 9 year old that winning isn't everything, but, to just be out for three hours kicking a ball with no intent to actually win?? I think that's retarded.

Kids need to learn how to win and how to lose. They also need to know that in the real world, not everyone always gets to play. There were MLB All-Stars that didn't get to play. Personally, I just see it as another way that people are really making their kids too soft.

would you shell out 5-10 grand to watch your kid sit on the bench. How is letting them do something that is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity "pussifying" these kids? They earn there way onto the allstar team to get to go in the first place, then they shell out a fortune for the privilage of going to freaking pennsylvania of all places? It has nothing to do with learning to win/lose..they still learn that belive me mine have.

I some of you have forgotten its a game, not much more important than playing Monopoly to a kid

Isn't this a new rule? Apparently, yes, they will fly from around the World on their own dime, just as people here locally drove their kids. Wanna make it worthwhile, be a good player. Don't preach to me the "their just kids" bullshit when you have coaches playing kids over the age limit with falsified Birth Certificates. Apparently it really means something. Think they want to play their best 9 or 10, or all 12-13?

I think Danny Almonte knew damn well he was illegal to play in that tournament and said go ahead, all kids are well aware of the age they have to be to play in that tournament. Hurls isnt being an ass, he's right
