Doing the Yahoo league, and i could use any newbie advice would be awesome.

A couple questions of my own

Best Time to take a Defense?
Defensive statistics and point modifiers:

Each sack: 1 point
Each interception: 2 points
Each fumble recovery: 2 points
Each TD: 6 points
Each safety: 2 points
Each blocked kick: 2 points
Shutout: 10 points
1-6 points allowed: 7 points
7-13 points allowed: 4 points
14-20 points allowed: 1 point
21-27 points allowed: 0 points
28-34 points allowed: -1 points
35+ points allowed: -4 points

What should I concentrate on with my first 1-4 picks?

I could lie to you like they do on that FF commercial (which is hilarious by the way), but here's what I've learned/read.

RB's are the most important players because they get the most touches each game. Many people don't understand that the RB's are the MVP's on your team so hopefully they take QB's early and leave you good RB's. Your first two picks should be RB's unless Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer (injury question???) is available with your 2nd round pick (this will never occur unless you are playing against girls). I took Larry Johnson and Steven Jackson with my first two picks. The third pick could go either QB or WR. I went WR and took Larry Fitzgerald in the 3rd. There wasn't much of a drop off in QB talent so I went ahead and took a WR (Reggie Wayne) in the 4th round as well. I went defense in the 7th and was still able to pick up the Chicago Bears (who I think has the best defense along with the Panthers). So that means you should be alright with not picking a defense until the 7th round.

In sum, draft RB, RB, QB or WR, QB or WR in the first four rounds, and the earlierst to take a defense would be the 7th round.

Just a note so you know where I'm coming from: I play on NFL.com, and we have 1 QB, 2 RB's, 2 WR's, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 DST. My draft was with 12 owners as well.

Here's my team:
QB: Vick and Volek
RB: LJ, Steven Jackson, Dominic Rhodes, Joseph Addai (One will be dropped after a starter is named)
WR: Fitzgerald, Wayne, Isaac Bruce, Ernest Wilford
TE: Heap, Kellen Winslow (Winslow wasn't even drafted, I picked him up as a free agent)
K: Feely
DST: Bears

Yes, I am somewhat thin at QB. However, Vick was a top 10 fantasy football QB last year and my RB's and WR's more than makeup for any inadequacies in that department. Furthermore, I expect Heap to be the second best TE in the league this year because of McNair. I've also turned down a ton of trade offers, so it's good to know people want my players. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask away.

good info, I am a newbi ff too.
Do you have any insight on drafting DL, CB, or LB's? Here is the scoring info for the league. Should I draft all DE for the DL position since sacks and fumble recoveries are so valuable?

Sorry man, I've never played in a league with actual defensive players that get drafted. However, it looks to me from your scoring system that you'd be better off drafting Sack machines. Since it is hard to gage who will get the most INT's, I'd say just stick with solid corners. Shut down corners seem to have mid-range INT's each year since they don't get many passes thrown their way. So would it be too bold to say to draft corners towards the end? Also, do some research and get a list of forced and recovered fumbles last year. That should help you when you draft. Once again, stick with the sack machines when you start drafting a defense. Sacks are more plentiful than both fumbles and INT's.
