View Full Version : Regier - Zagrapan to be signed before training camp

According to an article in this morning's Buffalo News, Sabres' general manager Darcy Regier said that Marek Zagrapan should be signed soon and will attend the Sabres' training camp. The comments were made during this week's rookie camp. Zagrapan was the Sabres' first round pick in the 2005 NHL entry draft, 13th overall. Zagrapan played for the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL fore the last two seasons. Zagrapan scored 32 goals and 50 assists in 59 games in 2004-5. He replicated that season in 2005-6 by scoring 35 goals and 52 assists in 59 games. The 6'0", 195 pound left shooting Slovakian born center could be one of the few legitimate snipers in the Sabres' system, which although deep doesn't contain a lot of pure scorers. Perhaps Zagrapan's biggest strength are his quick hands. Coupled with some deceptive speed and on ice vision, there's little question about his offensive skills. One of the knocks on him is his lack of physical play but in the new NHL such things aren't really the big issues they were in the past.

Yeah, it's good to see him start to develop with stafford in rochester.

Sounds like I just read Briere's scouting report.

Hopefully this guy is the read deal.

We'll see. Zags isn't at prospect camp, which isn't a good sign.

Zags is still pretty young, and unsigned, Stafford is the one I cant wait for he seems like a good two way foward that will kill pentalies, he led the NCAA in SHG, it possible we may see him by March or April

Yes we do, signed him just before the playoffs started, 3 or 4 yr deal

Rochester should be happy to see all these prospects loading u down there...

Sounds good to me, the Amerks could use something to be excited about.

There should be plenty of excitement in Rochester this year, the crop of rookies could look like this:

Zagrapan, Stafford, Clarke McAurthur, Mark Mancari, Artem Kruikov, Patrick Kaleta, Dylan Hunter, Andrej Sekera, Mike Funk, and Adam Dennis. (Give or take one or two)

If that doesn't get you excited I am not sure anything in hockey can.
