On the left side of the SabresInsider homepage there is cap watch 2006 breakdown. Why is there a difference in the total dollar amount and the cap number? There are no signing bonuses so I don't understand why it is not the same.

the cap rate is the average of all the contract years of each salary... the cap rate is what matters with the salary cap
ex.
Afinogenov cap rate:$3,333,333.33
06-07 $3,000,000.00
07-08 $3,500,000.00
08-09 $3,500,000.00
