J.P.'s a fine person and decent hockey player, but is in no way worth $2.9 million per season. We can do much better for that type of money, especially when we'd like to retain Briere at $5 million. If Briere stays, look at the forwards we'd still have:

Jochen Hecht - Daniel Briere - Thomas Vanek
Derek Roy - Chris Drury - Jason Pominville
Maxim Afinogenov - Tim Connolly - Ales Kotalik
Daniel Paille - Paul Gaustad - Adam Mair

Reserves:
Jiri Novotny
Andrew Peters

Rochester:
Drew Stafford
Clarke MacArthur
Chris Thorburn

Am I forgetting anyone?
Who here agrees?

Hecht - Daniel Briere - Maxim Afinogenov
Roy - Chris Drury - Jason Pominville
Vanek - Tim Connolly - Ales Kotalik
Daniel Paille - Paul Gaustad - Adam Mair

i doubt it's of any concern, i just can't see how he could be on this team.

They can sign Dumont if they want to. I have no problem with him comming back for 1 more year, its not my money. He is a solid contributer to our team.

i dont think paille is reliable enough to throw into 82 games... he's just way too small now... one game he was thrown into the boards with the opposing player barely even touching him

I'd take Novotny over Paille on that 4th line. He's much more physical.

Dumont is better than Afinogenov in case the fans of the Sabres have forgotten. Move Hecht for a 3rd rd pick to Detroit and retain Dumont.

Move Hecht instead of JP? Are you nuts? And JP better than Max? Maybe just because of the playoffs, but Max will come around.

Maybe during the playoffs but not during the season.

I think we will move JP and Marty but are we not expecting an everyday forward for him? I think we could get a great 3rd or 4th liner player that has some attitude.

JP is not better then Max , Max has a huge upside and JP has peaked.

We'll move both for picks and prosects, we cant afford to keep Miller,Kalinan, Briere and others if we take on salary even if its low

Agreed, someone's thinking here, and i dont like the whole thread here really. What did dumont ever do to you guys? i know 2.9 is a lot but we all know if we have any chance to resign briere that 2.9 will go towards him.

Dumont is solid. With him you know what you are gonna get. With Max, you might as well roll the dice.

Hecht is injury prone and not as physical. JP is statiscally and physically a better player than Max, its a fact not heresay. Russian players rarely improve once they get "paid" and I do not expect to see Max's numbers increase next season.

Sorry, "physically" better than Max, the guy has one hit every 10 games, lame to compare them like that, "Russian" players rarely improve once they are paid. Terrible points, actually ridiculously stupid points. Statistically better, are you the one who posted his career stats, because those obviously mean what will happen next year, because Max "didn't" finally come out last year.

Dumont we know what we'll get? 23 goals maximum maybe, no more. Max we know we'll get atleast 20 goals, but the potential to have 30, and if not, who cares, he'll have atleast 40 assists. He's getting older, he played 54 games, for 100,000 more dollars next year I'll take Max and his 70 pts and 50 assists over Dumont any day. And he's here for 3 years, BYEBYE Dumont

Yeah, but if we sign him and everyone thinks like most Sabre fans do, nobody will trade for his $2.9 million salary.

At $2.9 that's $500,000 per backcheck.

Hecht is invaluable to this team. When he's out it affects the team more than when JP's out.

Bluetubist put together the following idea for lines:

Hecht - Daniel Briere - Maxim Afinogenov
Roy - Chris Drury - Jason Pominville
Vanek - Tim Connolly - Ales Kotalik
Daniel Paille - Paul Gaustad - Adam Mair

Makes very good sense. As far as Paille on the 4th. I don't have a problem with that. That position is basically a rotating position: Peters/Novotny/Paille and others.

In the end there's just no room for JP.

How do you know? Teams already wanna deal for Biron....maybe we can work out some kind of package deal.

Sometimes I read posts that are so ridiculous that I can’t even respond due to the lack of any actually sense in the logic behind it. The video game mentality of statements like “let’s get rid of Hecht” Or “lets package Biron and JP in a trade” Honestly, these are very ignorant statements. You can’t just “package” players and think any GM is going to be interested in a deal like that other than the computer program in whatever the newest NHL video game is on the market.
Hecht is one of the most valuable talents on this team. He can skate, score, and play well in his own end. Hecht also plays physical. Not Adam Mair physical but, better. Hecht can carry the puck around the net and not get knocked of his skates. He goes in the corner…bla bla bla, I could go on. The point of this thread is dumping JP. I disagree. I would dump Max before JP. The playoffs are everything. First off let me say I don’t necessarily want to dump Max, but I would take a well rounded playoff performer like JP over A little guy who got man handled in the post season. Once again I kinda turned the corner on Max this season. I almost like him. But not over JP. When Max can control his temper, take a face-off, hold the puck with a body on him or finish more often, maybe then he will be more valuable than JP. Until then I will take consistency at 2.9 VS the 3.0 Max just got.
But hey! I bet Max kicks ass in NHL 2007!!

Connolly-Kotalik-Max was the line for a while, worked great, then Timmy got injured

rockstar, don't get me going about Max finishing, unless you compare his finishing to Kotalik, don't talk about it.

You don't have to start a thread for this, there is no way Darcy is that dumb. Dumont will walk and won't get another offer over 2 million and it will show how dumb an arbitration system is with a salary cap.
