Just curious. I'm wondering what his reasoning is? Does this give him any leverage? I'm thinking that an arbitrator would give him a healthy raise. Your thoughts.

I think it has to do with the fact that he wants a 2 or 3 year deal. When it expires, he would become a UFA. Arbitration would only give him a 1 year deal, and he would still be a restricted free agent.

That makes Miller sound like a guy that doesn't want to be in Buffalo for very long. That would really suck, hopefully we can get him signed on a deal we like and he'll want to stay after we win the Cup.

I don't even think he was elidgible for arbitration anyways.

Doubt it. They have too many goalie prospects that could be ready by then anyways......and next july? who says he gets a 1 year deal?

Look at McKee. I might be wrong but I thought that he would be staying. Miller wants to make a lot of money and will do everything he can to get it, even if that means leaving a good team for a bad one. A lot of athletes do this these days which blows away the idea of loyalty. There is no loyalty and he will be gone if we don't give him a ton of money.

Regier said that Miller has stated to him that he wants a long-term deal done...whether "long-term" to Regier means 3 years I don't know. But if he does do a 3 year deal at least we'll have him for 3 more years right? Any goalie prospects coming up in the ranks who would be ready in 3 years?

We got that short guy from Sweden lol

Seriously though what makes you people believe that Miller is all about the moeny. He probaly wants stability for 3 to 4 years and then as long as we are a good team still he would stay. If he wanted teh money he wouldve went to arbritration got a good one year deal and left.

You want to talk about all about the money look no further then Daniel Briere

Miller couldn't walk after a 1 year deal, he'd still be an RFA and we'd qualify him. At worst he'd force a trade where we probably exchange top notch young goaltenders with someone (Lehtonen for Miller maybe).

I have a feeling he thinks he can get the contract he wants next season. He probably feels he can play at a higher level and make even more next season. I have to say, and it isn't really trying to offend some of you, but when an athelete wants to test the free agent market as an unrestricted free agent, it has nothing to do with loyalty.

Miller doesn't need to file or worry he can see the Brinks truck rambling down the road and its got a trailer hooked up to it.Ryan will get all the scoots he can handle and then some.He won't even have to argue or beg cause the Sabres will be more than happy to accomadate him. They know what they have in one Ryan Miller and this league will always "PAY" for quality.

He had no case for abitration completing his rookie season and only having 84 NHL games under his belt. He's not going to get much more than Biron. That would have been the Sabres arguments and he knew it. He'll double his salary for next season with $1mil escallators for each following season agreed.

Um, I think Miller will be earning more than double last season's salary of $500,000. Montreal signed Cristobal Huet to a 2 year, $5.75 million dollar contract (link below) and he played less than Miller. I'm thinking Miller will be looking for more than this, especially with his stellar play in the playoffs.
