Members of Max Nation can sleep easier tonight with the signing of a multi year deal by our savior and Hero Maxim Afinogenov. All members should bow down, worship and show proper praise for the leader of Max Nation by posting their favorite Max play in this thread.

My personal favorite:

It doesn't mean he won't be traded by the way...

You don't trade someone like Max. He was our leading scorers, albeit Briere was injured, and he is one of the most electrifying players on the ice. If you were a defensemen and you see Max coming down the wing, full bore, you worry. He brings a whole different dynamic to our offense. You can't trade a player like that.

"Max is one of the most exciting players in the NHL," Sabres general manager Darcy Regier said. "We look forward to keeping him in Buffalo for years to come."

yes is does mean he won't be traded

Nice Vid. Where's the video where Max totally bombed on the breakaway in game 5??? TRADE HIM AT ONCE!!!

OVERTIME, 7:12
Afinogenov just botched a 2 on 1 chance with an inexplicable move in which it looked like he couldn't decide whether to pass or shoot and ended up deking himself out and falling down. The guy is maddening. And the Sabres just got called for a penalty. I feel ill.

THIRD PERIOD, 15:55
Max Afinogenov gets a breakaway for Buffalo. Sounds dangerous, because he's one of the most dazzling players in the league. But here's a secret: Afinogenov looks like a goal-scorer, skates like a goal scorer, but brother, he ain't a goal-scorer. He's got one of the worst sets of hands in the league. By the way, Afinogenov made a weak "move" on Cole and fired the puck right at his right pad.

I still think he may be moved. The contract situation could have scared possible suitors away with the chance he could be gone in just one year. The only thing to do at this point is too sit back and wait for Darcy to work some magic.

I still think he may be moved...like, I just have that little feeling that may happen. But...I hope he's not, because you don't trade a player like that....especially after he had the season he had. Yes, he struggled in the playoffs butI think it'll get better with him

BTW.....some Max Nation shirts in the new colors must be put into production lol

I am a major supported of Max Afinogenov and if I had a connection other then dial up I would post a video.

How many guys missed some shots in those OT playoff games a lot.

You can not base this guy on one playoff alone.

he is to much of a gmae breaker to deal away and has only got better every season.

it was just everyone looking for a scape goat, so he had a weak playoffs, so did his linemates which weren't steady, he played hard and was exciting, all anyone remembers is the breakaway miss, what about his pass to jochen in OT where he put it right in wards bread basket

Sorry but if keeping Max costs the team Briere, I would have preferred Pyatt @$700K. When it counted in the playoffs, Taylor stepped up and was a beast.

Max should be moved......pretty sad we want to keep him here after that playoff performance. Oh well, there's always the trade deadline!

And maybe we don't make the playoffs without Max's 22 goal;s and 51 assists.

People also seem to underestimate the speed factor max brings and, because of this, his ability to draw penalties. I remember several key times during the playoffs, mostly Ottawa and carolina series, where max drew penalties that we capatalised on.

Maybe he doesn't score the goal, but he does draw the penalty.

Even when Max isn't producing he's helping the team....when he gets the puck on his stcik the opponents attention is drawn away from everyone else...

Max is a very important piece of this team. Even when he doesn't "finish" in the playoffs - he creates opportunities for himself and his teamates. He also continues to pressure the other team's D when he's on the ice.

Each year as a Sabre Max has become a better player. I don't see why that isn't going to happen again next year.

Hey all I can say is that I love the Sabres and I dislike Maxim Afinogenov. Folks see how quick or elusive he can be and I see someone without the ability to finish. Does anyone remember Brian Holzinger, Mr Hands Like Feet? Personally, I feel he and Kotalik should not have been paid or retained and I would have preferred to keep Pyatt and Dumont. This team is quick and small but it was the power forwards like Brindamour that did this club in. Say what you will about the defensive injuries but the goals still went in. Was it the forwards not being responsible or suspect goaltending? Ok back to the topic.
To me, Max should have bested Satan's greatest numbers as a Sabre last season with the new rules, the other players injuries and Satan's departure. I do not foresee him improving now that he's been paid either. It's my opinion, which means next to nothing but I'll stick to it and feel its validated with facts and stats.
Moving on, I hope he proves me wrong before Jan 1 or he should be moved quickly before his contract is absorbed.
