A thinner but combative Saddam Hussein returned to court Wednesday for the first time since his hunger strike and hospitalization, complaining he had been forced to attend the proceedings and asking to be executed by firing squad if the court sentences him to death.


"I was brought against my will directly from the hospital," Saddam told the chief judge. "The Americans insisted that I come against my will. This is not fair."



He asked the court to execute him by firing squad - "not by hanging as a common criminal" - if it convicts him of all charges and sentences him to death.


"I ask you being an Iraqi person that if you reach a verdict of death, execution, remember that I am a military man and should be killed by firing squad," he said.

Here's a better idea move his trial to the Hague where he can be given a fair and impartial trial. Also try all the war criminals there including the people on our deck of cards of evil Saddam regime elements and also the Americans who helped make things worse. So put Saddam and co on trial and also put Bush, Rumsfeld, Bush Jr, Rice, Powell, Schwarzkopf, Fleischer, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Bremer, Baker, and the like on trial. Trying him in the Hague will give him a life sentence and he won't be able to be a martyr. It will also give his trial an aura of legitimacy and will show any backers of him that the entire world has contempt for the man and his actions. Then what you do is put him in a 7x7x7 prison cell encased in cement where the only light comes in the tiny sliver where they slide his food tray and water in. Then take him to the baghdad zoo so his victims can look at him.

Trust me you do not want to kill him. He deserves it yes, but he will become a martyr. The Arab mindset is that someone may be total and worthless alive, but if you kill him especially if you are seen as a foreign occupier or a collaborator then he is a martyr and hero of the people. Throw him away for the rest of his wretched life, but do not kill him for the violence will only spiral even more out of control than it is now.
