What deathtoll of innocent Lebonese men, women and children will satisfy you?

Funny thing about terrorists... you can wipe out a whole nest of them and they can still technically claim they were all "civilians". Hey, it worked in Kosovo...

If you go to some of the bigger supermarkets like Loblaws or Fortinos, you see small packages of Maple Leaf English Bacon.
You'll also find it at meat counters at St. Lawrence Market, Brunos, Pusateris

I'm in.
Peameal comes in whole vacuum sealed slabs here and I saw it as cheap as $2.49 CAN at a smallish grocery store 4 kms from me.
I can also get it for $1.99 or less in my favourite butcher -- Farmer Als's -- on the mountain in Stoney Creek/Hamilton.
I love elk.
Eat it when I go to The Diplomat in Regina.
What's backstrap?

It's about $5-6 for a package about half the size of our normal stripey bacon 400-450g size, so yes it is expensive.

No can do on the meat exchange, moonie, but thanks for the offer.
I looked up the import export regulations and talked to a friend who's a customs broker in Toronto. For a small volume of meat, he said it would probably spoil by the time we got all the approvals/permits, etc. required, not to mention the cost involved. If I was visiting you and driving or flying back, I can take up to 20 kg of meat, but even then, they can hold it for inspection, etc. They're very touchy on meat import/export now ever since mad cow became an issue.
Here's a suggestion for US folks who may want to try peameal bacon. There's a US web-based retailer in MI that ships http://www.realcanadianbacon.com/

I can see the point, I know that it's processed correctly and is tested for chronic wasting, but they don't know that. Good info. It probably wouldn't matter if the USDA gave it's stamp of approval, they would still have to run their own test.
