WASHINGTON -- A bill that would make it a crime to take a pregnant girl across state lines for an abortion without her parents' knowledge passed the Senate Tuesday, but vast differences with the House version stood between the measure and President Bush's desk.

The 65-34 vote gave the Senate's approval to the bill, which would make taking a pregnant girl to another state for the purposes of evading parental notification laws punishable by fines and up to a year in jail.

Kudos to the Dems who voted for this measure. I'm sorry but unless you can prove a girl is being ****ed by her father or other male relative, and IMHO that is extremely rare it should be illegal to perform an abortion anywhere without parental consent. Its funny almost any operation or medicine given to a minor requires parental consent, shouldn't abortion. Especially in trimester three or even late trimester two where the baby has a viable chance at surviving in ICU?

Most fine dining places serve it when they can get it. Just not in Chicago.

I can just imagine the foie gras speakeasys popping up in Joliet

Fois Gras is nasty... I had it at one of the best restaurants I've ever been too.... not technically "had" it... I couldn't eat it because it looks so incredibly foul....or is it "fowl" D3?

Because of a bad experience involving a combination of goose on Christmas Day 1998 and Rob Johnson the day after I will never touch goose, a part of a goose, or a goose by product ever again. You remember that game when we beat the saints 45-33. Well so do I. You see every time the bills scored a touch down I vomitted up the goose. The chunky industrial type puke too. Man I almost died.

Why not tell their parents?

You said fear well if thats the case how about another relative?

Brother, sister, aunt ,uncle, grandparent or somebody they trust.

Or a friend they look up to.

Their choices because of this law in your opinion means they must turn to crack houses, alleys and the backseats with hangers etc.

That can't be the result in the majority of cases.

First off....sorry,but this bill is nothing more than a sop to the "religious right".

They DO recognize,I assume, that the majority of teens caught in this situation DO tell their parents-and those that can't more than likely are forced into silence due to internal family pressures.

And...apologies,phantom....you may not like hearing it,but TOUGH. This IS a do-nothing Congress. We have so many problems facing this country and how do our elected reps choose to deal with it?

By having debate on 2 useless amendments to the Constitution("gay marriage" and flag burning).

Among many other measures.

Thanks Gibby I realize it's a most difficult event or circumstance.

But I think it's up to the adults to make these young girls feel they have an outlet and that people care about them.

Parent's need to make sure they don't make that awesome decision by themselves.

Some parents suck and would turn their backs and thats pathetic.

Sorry you feel the way you do ckg68.

But for once put the obvious politics of it aside.

To whatever degree this helps a girl make the decision she must I say Bravo!

Remember all or most all politicians are as you say political.

But if this helps any of those young people out I say screw the politics.

I'd rather worry about the young girls than to give a shit about some political positioning.

That's my two cents everybody have a good day.

For the young girls it is.

We all know it's political.

That's not gonna win the election for whoever proposed it.

Not in this country Doug.

The people voting against such an instruction need to be examined.

But that's up to the voters.

It's so easy to say it's political.

For crying outloud everything is political.

г
July 27th, 2006, 10:27:12 AM
If it's 'about the girls,' why don't they take it a step further and take the girls into custody (for their own good).

After all, they're committing a 'crime' in the pro-lifer's eyes.

Of course thats not true.

All any real people that give a shit want to do is help.

Forget the political crap that goes along with everything.

Republicans refused to make grandparents and other relatives/friends/clergyman exempt from prosecution.

"During floor negotiations with Boxer, Ensign rejected a proposal by Feinstein to protect from prosecution such confidants as grandparents, clergy and others to whom a girl might turn for help."

So a teenage girl has to get her parent's consent regardless of who is actually raising her or who she trusts.

IMO this law puts an unnecessary obstacle in the way of someone receiving a medical treatment and the government shouldn't be getting involved.

You sound like you have an intelligent grasp of the issue.

Much better than mine.

I agree with you that grandparents need by law the ability to step in when necessary.

It sounds right to me I don't understand anyone not supporting that position.

Admit here I have no idea why such a proposal was rejected.

Also exclusion of Clergy sounds rather an ignorant view.

I don't know why they fight that I'll also admit.

The support of Clergy is very important to have available without restriction IMHO.

I don't know and it doesn't make Ensign right but was this the best political position he could take to get enough votes?

If and I repeat if that's what he had to do.

Unfortunately that's where the excessive political bullshit jumps in.

I wish we could put a stop to it.

Unfortunately both sides barter in this matter.

Issues such as Judges are bartered in similar manner.

We will give you that nominee for this amendment on this bill and that.

It's political and it's bullshit.

Just get something done and quit *********G around.

Another thing I hate is how these bastards get so much freakin vacation.

Sometimes I wonder do we need any of these bastards.

Excuse my language professional politicians make me sick.

Thanks for your post I didn't watch this as it was debated.

Therefore parental notification is very important when and where possible for the young lady. They need some guidance on this huge life changing decision.
Let's all hope they recieve the good advice before making that choice.
