I don't know what he did, but after 11 yrs working for ESPN I don't think they would up and fire him. It must have been something really bad maybe he punched John Kruk in his fat head for waving his finger in his face the other night.

ESPN FIRES REYNOLDS
By ANDREW MARCHAND

July 25, 2006 -- ESPN yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, sources told The Post. The reason was not immediately known.

"We are not going to comment," ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said.

When asked how they are going to explain that Reynolds will never be on the air again, Krulewitz still declined comment.

Reynolds did not return calls.

Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years. He had been a fixture on the show, which is a gathering spot for baseball fans, players and team executives.

The program already is dealing with the loss of information man Peter Gammons. Gammons is recovering from a brain aneurysm that occurred at the end of last month. The show's main analysts had been Reynolds, Gammons and John Kruk.

In Gammons' absence, ex-Met GM Steve Phillips has played a bigger role on the show. The program uses several analysts, including Orel Hershiser, Tino Martinez and Jeff Brantley.

Last night, host Karl Ravech was joined by Kruk and Phillips. Reynolds usually is on Monday nights.

Reynolds was known for a smooth style that usually was player friendly. He never found himself in too much controversy for what he said on the air. In fact, ESPN was so high on him he was expected to stay with the network through its just signed eight-year deal with MLB.

Now, after yesterday, Reynolds is no longer welcome in Bristol.

ESPN is a ****in joke. They just fired one of the few people I actually had a lot of respect for over there. I hope HR lands on his feet elsewhere because he's a great analyst and someone I always enjoyed listening to.

Screw Baseball Tonight -- I'd rather listen to anyone over John Kruk.

Well he wasn't doing coke, cause if ESPN had a 'you can't do cocaine policy' well all know Michael Irvin wouldn't be there.

There is no such word as dismissment, as Coach said. Just like theres no one who gives wishes named a "jeanie". As in another thread, I agree with Coach. If you're going to make a thread, at least take the time to make sure the words you use, are ACTUAL words. You've been contributing nicely in response to a post I made. Now we gotta work out the kinks. :D

Say Goodnight, Harold [Deadspin]

(UPDATE: Another reader, with "contacts on the inside," refutes the sexual harassment whispers: "Anyone who is saying sexual harassment either has been given bad third-hand info or is lying. Harold has had a couple of rather heated arguments with the producers at "Baseball Tonight," and some of the suits at ESPN over the program's coverage of Alex Rodriguez. At the last production meeting, when it was made clear they were going to really play up the A-Rod angle during coverage of the Yankees-Texas series, Harold had a colossal meltdown, which led to his dismissal. The sexual harassment allegations are even more laughable when you consider that he is being replaced by Steve Phillips -- a man who has never met a skirt he wouldn't chase and who was caught in one of the more embarrassing front office sexual harassment scandals in MLB history."

True? Not true? This, like the rest of it, just reinforces our point: We don't know. And the longer ESPN pretends like nothing happened, like they're a corner shop with three employees, believing this stuff can possibly remain private, the more talk there will be. Still, this is the lone "it's not sexual harassment email" we've received.)

Harold had the guts to tell it like it is to BSPN and the schmucks didn't like it.

Who could hire him now? FOX maybe?

Get rid of Steve Lyons and bring in HR. I should start a petition.

I posted this in the Yankee thread Saterday night(page 19)

I think the boys on Baseball tonight are starting to get fed up w/ all the ARod crap(I know I am)

They were over analyzing Arod again and showed all 4 of his at bats pitch by pitch today during the highlights of the game. At the end Tim Kurjian says in a annoyed voice, "I've counted at least 40 players this year that have had 4k's in a game, yet this is the first time Baseball Tonight decides to highlight it." Then Brantley bassically said that enough's enough.

This was the early edition of BT. The didnt do the pitch by pitch in the later one and Tim Kurjian seemed less annoyed

I'm not surprised though this is what ESPN has reduced itself to. They take a story and beat to death over and over and over. They did w/ Kobe vs Shaq, Kobe rape case, T.O. .......ect

The whole Arod trade stuff was complete and pure bull ****. It annoyed the crap out of me. Every player gets into a slump once and a while. We are all human. Maybe HR told them to move on.

Plus, the Range's own jaymitch84 came up with the idea first on his sports blog. Then ESPN stole it. ;)
