View Full Version : I am In Agony!

Not a slapstick reference to NWF's posts. I had dental surgery (2.5 hours) again today. The problem is that at age 40 I NEVER had my wisdom teeth out. Over time they crowded and displaced my back molars thus destroying several teeth.
Well today I had the following:
2 wisdom teeth rewmoved
2 back molars pullled
Bone grafts over the pulled molars.
Implant posts drilled into my jawbone and inserted.
I am on a standard antibiotic therapy (600 mg clinimcyin every 6 hours) plus a Percocet 7.5 mg with 650 mg acetaminophen.
Problem: Even with the Percocets I am in agony with the standard dose. SO I called the periodontist and he told me to up the dose to 15 mg every 4 hours, alternated with 7.5 mg with 800 of Motrin every 4 hours (to prevent tylenol toxicity).
Well, it is working quite well. I am stoned to the Bejesus belt but the pain is quite managable. I asked about addiciton and tolerance and the dentist and pharmacist both said only if I took them for at least a week and a half straight.
So NorthWesternFan. This is how you handle post-surgical pain. If your regimen is not effective then call the Dr. and discuss options.

I had all four wisdom teeth pulled in one sitting...I don't know what they gave me, but I never felt better. I looked like Mike Tyson used my head as a speed bag but I never experienced a millisecond of pain.
The odd thing was, even though this particular dentist’s office was literally across the street from where I lived at the time, they made me have a family member sit there and wait and then drive me back home. We walked...I left a blood trail on the sidewalk and street on purpose to give my neighbor’s something to scratch their heads about.

Me? I vaguely remember (this is 15 years ago) having my brother get a couple scripts from the doctor filled...probably an antibiotic and pain killers. I probably took the antibiotic because I didn't want to have to deal with an infection....but I doubt a took any of the pain killers cause I never felt any pain.
Now if the doctor had given me a script that involved his receptionist giving me a BJ....that I would've used.

Because instead of whining I was proactive and took action. And did what the Dr. ordered instead of ignoring him and then proceeding to come here and whine about the consequences of my inaction.
Yeah I am in agony. But I'll deal with it.

If you're screwed up drink a bottle of Wild Turkey. It'll effect your perfomance and make your friends/family worry about you but your pain will go away. :niterider

Blood from your stomach, or blood from your teeth that you swallowed...?
Blood iritates your stomach and can cause vomiting.......

Yep. More than a teaspoon of blood in the stomach can cause vomiting. All from my teeth. And I must have barfed up a pint by now. Going back to the dentist where he is going to give me a shot in the ass of Tigan, which alleviates nausea for 24 hours.

It's an example of Pete's "Independent " mind rejecting his own swallowed "Republican" blood. The internal struggle is on.

In defense of NW I have to tell you that major dental work (4 extractions) does suck ass. Perhaps it is because I got my wisdom teeth yanked at 40 when they were good and deep. Couldn't do it when young because I was so poor. Then just put it off. Now I lost 2 molars because of it. Ohh well. Just have to be grateful for other crap.
But man do I feel like crap today. Just plain physically lousy. Must have been the hangover from the sedation.

Tonsils and wisdom teeth are two things that you DON'T want to have yanked when you are 30+.
Working in a hospital I've seen 30+ year olds in sheer agony from tonsilectomies. Getting these wisdoms yanked sucked pretty bad too. Didn't expect it to be this painful. In fact, I thought I'd be back to work the next day.

Whats the difference with the tonsils? The teeth I can understand, but isn't a tonsil a tonsil regardless if your 15 or 45?

hmmmm,
I have cryptic tonsils, and they are always full of blood and stuff but I havent been able to get surgery and my doc always plays it off as nothing. I heard the risks get greater when you are older for a tonsilectomy. I have read some stuff online and think it could have someting to do with my periods of lack of energy and often weak immune system (i get sick 4-5 times a year despite eating healthy and taking great care of my body)

Pete, I would just like to say I am fully functional...
Going back to the dentist tommorow though....
my ordeal looks to be over...
And I did without any PAIN MEDS or SEDATION
That's why teenagers are more of men then anyone.... We can take pain, and don't get ED(erectial disfunction).

I had all four wisdom teeth pulled, a expierence I'd recommend to the next. You get pretty messed up on Sodium Penathol. The only shitty part is recovery, and smoking through your nose.

Declaring yourself "manly" because you are stupid enough to suffer through pain to "prove" that you are a "man" is not manly at all. It's idiotic.
