What exactly has caused our willingness to submit to a strengthend executive, and away from a strengthend congress, as originally intended?

Because we know it will swing the other way in a few years. It always does. We have no ability to maintain a steady, even-handed democracy because we are too evenly divided on most issues, and no one is willing to compromise.

What I'm concerned about is the horrible DOUBLE STANDARD of our legislation:

Regulation of sex...GOOD
Regulation of corporations who use overseas sweatshops...BAD
Requirement of 18 years to smoke/21 years to drink...GOOD
Requirement of teenagers less than 18 NOT to be tried as adults...BAD
Government giving out massive aid to corporations in the red...GOOD
Government giving out massive aid to poor people who have nothing...BAD

This was inspired by the Colbert Report... an addendum if you will :)

We are not as secure as we might think so.

I had to go to a big meeting in the NYC yesterday. At every point on the Path train station stops were armed Police officers. Cops looking for suspicious people or packages. They were all the way up to the station exits.

This is because of a threat to the Holland Tunnel.

the simple answer is fear

the complex answer is that in times of extreme stress we desperately search for an iconic leader, someone we can look up to like a father figure, someone who will make it all better

with the twinkle in his eye and the down home personality we eagerly bought into george being that guy. oh he'll never let us down, never do anything to jeopardize the country, he will lead us through all these problems

yeah right. and ann coulter isnt a hateful opportunistic bitch conning people into making her wealthy

fear is most powerful motivator there is and we fell for the exploitation of that fear like james toast williams falling for a fake buttonhook
