With Belfour now in DET and Cloutier in LA, where do you think Marty is going to end up? It seems to me that all of the open (or effectively open) starting G slots are now filled. Sucks for Marty. My guess (and recommedation at this point) is Marty rides the pine until the trade deadline and the Sabres get the most prime real estate they're going to get. Trade him now and they don't get as much. Any thoughts? Also, if Cloutier is worth a 2nd round draft pick in 2007 and a conditional pick in 2009, isn't Marty worth more? (i.e., a #1 in 07, or someone's #1 in 06)?

Keep him, our Goalie spot would be the best in the league. Darcy is asking too much as it is, by the time of the trade deadline he will get it!

A veteran goaltender is needed in Florida

That's what I've been saying. If we can't get good value for Marty, just keep him until a team is desparate for a goalie in the latter stages of next season.

I am of the mind of keeing Marty, if we deal Marty and Miller is run & injured in a game, currently our option is... Adam Dennis.

I totally agree. We have plenty of cap room. He could be pretty valuable at the deadline. I feel bad for him riding the pine but the sabres need to get a good deal for him.

Ah but the cap room will take a hit with 12 going to arbitration no doubt.

Totally but given that we have a "self-imposed" cap and we are currently under the old cap and the raised cap, I have a feeling we can afford Marty's salary. Plus he is a great back-up to have in case Miller gets injured.

We cannot keep Marty. The good feelings from last year will be shot to hell. We can't expect him to shut up and ride the pine again.

I guarantee he goes near the trade deadline.

Well the Sabres hold all the cards on this one--they own his rights for one more season. Marty may "play" the same role because he knows that there is a possible out at the deadline and definite out at the end of the season. He is a class act and why hurt your marketability by being a "cancer" to a team that you were under contract with.
In an ideal world, he is traded now, but I think he will be here at the start of the season

If we are to trade Marty, we oughta sign a FA goaltender to backup Miller - how does Brian Boucher sound? Or maybe Manny Legace?

I too, believe he will be here at the start of the season. As much as I like having him as the security blanket behind Miller, I can't help but think the 2.1 mill he's getting is hurting us given the fragile finacial state we are in. Having 12 players go to arbitration means we are going to need every penny to keep as many players here as possible.

My guess is that Marty will be a Sabre come Oct. 4. There is no market for him right now and to be honest, I don't think Darcy really wants to deal him.
Regier keeps saying that Marty is an asset, well how do the Sabres best put that asset to use:
1. Trading for draft picks? No thanks
2. Getting a 3rd or 4th line forward? Already have enough
3. Defensive prospect? Possibly
4. Having him back up Miller? DING!!DING!!

The only way I'd trade Biron before the season would be if the team could get a good free agent goalie beforehand. And by good, I mean Manny Legace, Jussi Markanen (is he a UFA?), or Brian Boucher.

How about trading Marty to FLA for:
1) Bouwmeester: http://www.forecaster.ca/hockeynews/hockey/_4qc90jbtip20/player.cgi?2876
AND
2) Auld: http://www.forecaster.ca/hockeynews/hockey/_i6faovf8s32t/player.cgi?1892 (I know he was just acquired) OR a 2nd rd. pick in 2007
Not gonna happen, but seems like a reasonable, fair trade ;-)

Or just trade Marty straight up for Sidney Crosby?
Not a chance in hell FLA trades Bouwmeester for Marty..

I still think Biron will be going to Detroit. Belfour is washed up and Legace is not the answer. Legace would be a nice backup here though.
