He has got to be one of the greatest coaches in the game today.

Pat Riley coached one of the greatest players Magic Johnson with the Lakers.

Pat Riley is a scumbag who sold the Knicks out. Screw him

His only redeeming quality is he is from Schenectady

When Pat Riley coached the Knicks they also had a Baffoon for a GM in Scott Layden. The knickerbockers did the franchise a HUGE favor by canning this guy.

The word is buffoon, and could you please name that GM(no looking it up either Master of the Obvious)? Riley is not one of the greatest coaches in the game today, he inherited, er, stole Ron Jeremy's team. Rilkey WAS a good coach. I wish I could get away with making baseless statements made solely on headlines from a paper.

Njsue, Scott Layden wasn't the man in charge at the time. Dave Checketts hired Riley. So please explain how a guy that was GM years after Riley coached there, screwed them? :dunno:

Riley rode a reayd made dynasty to 4 titls in the 80s, he did a good job but never finished the job w/ the Knicks, he was awful w/ Miami the first time around then after he got Shaq and saw how good wade was h sold out his formr firend and coach and rode the coattails to another title.

Riley built the team... period. He definatly kicked Stan out (no one is stupid enough to believe that Stan actually quit on his own)... but it had to be done. Stan wouldnt have been able to handle all of the Vets on this team. Wade said it perfectly "We had alot of big egos on this team... and we needed a coach that had an even bigger one to keep us in check".

Stan wouldnt have had the balls to sit Shaq as much as Riley did... and Shaq wouldnt have respected Stan enough to allow him to. Same with Walker, Payton, and J-Will. Riley is the only one that could have put them in their place and make them accept the roles that they were given.

I like Stan... great guy... and a good coach... but he wasnt going to be able to get the job done... not with this roster.
