Mavericks Owner Cuban Fined $250,000 for Criticizing Referees
June 20
(Bloomberg) -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been fined $250,000 by the National Basketball Association for criticizing officials following his team's overtime loss in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.
Cuban, 47, yelled at referee Joe DeRosa after the June 18 game, which the Mavericks lost 101-100 to the Miami Heat on Dwyane Wade's two free throws with 1.9 seconds left in overtime. He also complained in media interviews.
The NBA said in a one sentence statement that Cuban was fined for ``several acts of misconduct.'' The league didn't elaborate or comment further.
Cuban has been fined more than $1.3 million by the NBA since buying the franchise in January 2000, mostly for publicly disparaging the officials. He was docked $200,000 last month for going onto the court during a playoff game and for criticism on his blog of the NBA's system of picking postseason referees.
On his Web log, http://www.blogmaverick.com , Cuban today disputed a Miami Herald report that he screamed at NBA Commissioner David Stern following Game 5. ``Didn't say a word to the man,'' Cuban wrote. ``Not a single word. And that was absolutely by intention.''
Cuban told WFAA television in Dallas that he would consider selling the Mavericks if the NBA doesn't address his concerns.
``In a heartbeat,'' he told the station. ``If they don't want to make things better than what am I here for.''

I agree w/ him 2000%. The Mavs got an Official Hose Job by piss poor Refs. And no, a quarter mil doesn't hurt him one bit. He's been fined almost 1 and a half mil since buying the team, and matches his fine amounts to charity. He's not concerned. And I will be 20,000 chips richer after Dallas wins Game 6 tonight.

He's a whiner no doubt, but this time he's right. The NBA is screwing the Mavs. Stern hates Cuban so much he's clearly told the refs to help out Miami so he doesnt have to hand Cuban the trophy in case DAllas wins. I bet Stern preffers to drown in his own piss before having to give Cuban the award.

What... the foul? Comon... they have a guy named Howard that hasn't scored a basket in any 4th quarter all series...ALL SERIES. he was the second best mav out there. Novitsky doesn't get to the line because he stays outta the paint and he was their third best player out there. If the Heat hits 5 free throws in the first half... ot doesn't happen.

How about a guy waving an arm at someone as he passes in the lane w/out touching him, and a foul is called? I'd say there's your injustice.

yes he can. Even old man Gary Payton has hit more clutch shots than either Dirk "I hate exercise bikes" Novo and Terry. The coach also blew that timeout. Very stupid.

What about Stacks suspension ?? ....... even Shaq admitted the foul was no big deal. That was Stern's move to screw Dallas.
And look at the free throw differential in game 5. its ridicolous how many times Miami was at the line compared to DAllas. It just doesnt happen

I hate people blaming refs though. The Mavs have shot like crap in Miami, they have no one to blame but themselves. Refs are people they make bad calls, there is no grand scheme...Mark Cuban is a jackass

Well, the heat did get some calls... but the differential isnt near as big as it seems.
13 of the foul shots were on intentional fouls and 2 were technicals free throws... Dallas used Hack-A-Shaq. Doing that as much as they did also put them in the penalty which gave the Heat even more FT attempts.
When you take out the intentional fouls and techs... the ratio is 25 to 34 which really isnt bad.
2nd of all... the Heat attacked the basket consistantly... where as the Mavs settled for jump shots all game. Of course Miami is going to have some more...

you can not tell from that angle if they are even touching...it shows nothing other than he was extending his arm near Wade. I havent seen the play I have no idea if he did or not
and correct me if i am wrong, cause i didnt get to watch the game, didnt they call it on Nowitzki?

yeah it's natural to curl your fingers inward to get extra extension if reaching... what does he have... palsy?

I didn't see the end of the game. Were the Mavs in the penalty? 'Cuz if not, that was no way near a continuation play. Unless of course you are the Sainted MJ, which Bone-Choker Stern wants anyways. Quit trying to make another Jordan, Stern, there will NEVER be another guy who warrants so many non-fouls to be called fouls. Now I'm worked up over a sport I rarely watch. Thanks.

Oh... ya they called it on Dirk... here is a pic. They called him for a hand on the back while the player was in the air.

Its pretty weak. But it didnt matter, because Wade was also getting hacked by Harris. It didnt really matter though because its not like Dirk fouled out because of it or anything.

it doesnt matter anyway, the Mavs shouldnt have let themselves get to that position in the first place. 5-19 on threes.. Dirk not taking it to the hole anymore.
the only call i really felt was over the top was suspending stack for a playoff foul

Looks like Wade not only has a foot down, but took another step too. Continuation is the worst call in the league. Either you get fouled while shooting, or you don't. Getting (not) fouled while thinking about shooting is bogus.

It's not a call you make at the end of a game that decides the winner. You only call that fould if it's a hard one in that spot.
Dallas did drive the ball. All Harris does is drive, then guys like Howard and Terry take the ball to the hoop to. And Dirk is fouled on basically every possession, but they never call it yet at the other end if a defender coughs near Wade it's called.
Just dosen't add up, I mean in game 4 or 5 Wade's FT numbers were the same as the whole Mavs team (21-25). The problem with this series is Shaq and Wade got superstar treatment and every call whereas the refs gave nothing to the Mavs. It seemed as if there were two different set of rules in this series for the Mavs and Heat and it started in game 3.

Mark Cuban needs to go back to managing Dairy Queen's & leave his vast fortune to me.
I wouldn't blow it all as shamelessly as he does.

Cuban is worrying more about this pictures of him having a greeaat time with a scantily clad mostly nude woman on south beach that are going around. I have a really good feeling that those pics will dissappear quickly and some amateur photagrapher will come into some money b4 Mrs. Cuban gets a look.

If the Mavs didnt want the Heat going to the line... they shouldnt have hacked Shaq all the time. They got in the penalty alot because of it which put our team on the line alot more...
Not to mention... they arnt going to get to the line themselves if they settle for jumpshots all game. Avery consistantly criticized them for it. They were actually starting to penatrate and attack until Zo went crazy in the paint and intimidated the hell out of them. They started pulling up for shots after that... and never stopped...

Teams who take it to the basket are always rewarded with calls. Wade earned them.
Dallas lost calls and the series becuase they gave up thier aggressiveness.

Your not going to see things staright because your a Heat fan and that's cool.
Trust me, being a Rocket fan I hate the Mavs, but even with that hate I could still see that they got screwed by the refs throughout the series. Forget the hack a Shaq, Wade shot as much FT's as the whole Mavs team in game 4. Stuff like that dosen't happen in games, at least games that are officated properly.
Stop with this Dallas didin't drive buisness. Harris, Howard and Terry take the ball to the hoop regularly, and Harris specializes in it. And if They were calling fouls on Dallas for their D on Wade, then the Heat should have got fouls every time Dirk had the ball with the way they were bumping and pushing him around.

I'm not going to say the Heat didnt get some calls... Wade definatly drew a few... but I think it is completely overblown.
Now about Harris, Howard, and Terry... Harris is the only one that consistantly took it to the hole. Terry and Howard pulled up for shots all day... especially Howard. He wasnt agressive at all. Dont believe me? Avery consistantly criticized them for it. They were finally starting to penetrate in game 6... until Zo went crazy and intimidated the hell out of them. After that... Dallas resorted back to shooting jumpers...
And Dirk did get fouls called from Haslem and Posey pushing him around. Haslem and Posey almost fouled out every game. No doubt they were roughing him up... that was the plan. But they got fouls called against them for it...
