Looks like I may be back in WNY in the next few weeks if all goes ok. I'll be sure to make a trip down there to check it all out.

Mogilny are you talking about the construction? If so I am not sure.
I do know the Senencas are knocking down the HO oat grain elevators. You can see them tearing them down when you drive by.

I know it's progress, but what a shame. Something you look for when entering B-Lo all the time.

They are part of Buffalo's history (grain elevators) but when they are not kept up and they are a safety risk, it's time to take them down. I just wished that they could have been saved and made presentable again. However, I would rather have a more eye-pleasing sight upon entering the city. I hope that more people realize what a travesty it is not to develop the waterfront. It is a gold mine that is just sitting there vacant and ugly.
We need to find some young people willing to take on local government offices and get out of the "Jimmy Griffin 6-pack" mindset and do something positive to bring the City back to where it is capable of being.
There are poorer areas of the city and surrounding areas, but there is also enough money in the area to support a revilalized downtown. One of the biggest bones of contention is parking. We have thousands of vacant buildings downtown, but no where to park for the ones that are open. Make the city easy to get in and out of and make the ability to park and walk to some of these shops/restaurants (and for god's sake the ARENA) and that will be a huge step forward.
I wish that I was loaded because I would come in there and do it up right. We have the wrong people in office in the city and county government and until this is addressed (electing people who are business-savvy) we will not move forward.
Instead of giving foreigners and out-of-area businesses tax breaks, give the people that have a stake in the community a break -- those that are already there and struggling.
We have a wonderful city full of people that I want to live around and yet, I am forced to go to the burning ring of hell (better known as Texas) to get paid well. I HATE IT HERE. It can't hold a candle to Buffalo, yet this is where the economy is soaring because these stupid hicks found a way to attract business. THEY DON'T HAVE ANYTHING on us. THEY DON'T. Except, that they took whatever steps necessary to bring business to this dust bowl with filthy water and made it work. Please don't tell me we are stupider than these bullheaded, macho Texicans!!!
(End of rant). I just really want to move home and see my beloved city prosper again. It is a diamond in the rough FOR SURE. I want to see it shine again!
(removing rose-tinted glasses). Well, that felt better for about a minute.

I don't believe they have even signed the contract with Bass Pro yet, sad since it was originally supposed to open this year.

Bass Pro has it on their "future stores" site, but nothing has officially been signed or announced since 2004.

I wrote them to see if they would answer me, but I am sure I will get the obligatory "it is in our plans" type answer with no real response to speak of.
That would be fantastic. Even though people in S. Florida laugh hysterically about the concept of Buffalo getting a Bass Pro shop, I live near one here in Dallas (it's in Grapevine) and that place alone has sparked a growth in that area that was previously fields. Laugh all you want -- it can make a great economic difference and spark much re-birth in a city that needs it.
I hope it happens -- and soon!

We are not laughing at Buffalo getting a Bass Pro Shop, rather the fact that it is bug newws. This will not have that major of an economic impact. The casino is a different story.

It's done much more than the convention center ever did. The only way to help the WNY economy is tax breaks for industry... won't happen. AND anything that can pull in outside revenue like conventions. The Bufffalo wing will not entice any travel to Buffalo but a casino can.

true sukie but If your going to build a casino Then build a Foxwoods or a casino like they have in vegas or like some in atlantic city... make them huge ie 6,000 rooms a gaming floor of 200,000 square feet stores shops ect.... That attracts visitors not these small casinos the senacas are building.http://www.recordonline.com/archive/2006/05/27/news-onsmohawks-05-27.html now if this gets built That is a casino ! not these small token casinos in western NY

We just had a huge 10 floor Crowne Plaza Hotel go up 1/4 mile from my place and 1 mile from the Everglades. Damn. I should have started 4 or 5 threads on this at least a year ago. I wonder if Charles Schumer had a hand in this?
