You can sit here and argue over what players will be able to slow down whoever, but there is not one man in this league that can either stop or slow down Dirk! Plain and simple, J-Wil can do whatever you say he can do but the bottom line is no one can stop dirk, Dallas=2006 Champs!

Bruce Bowen usually does a pretty good job defending Nowitzki. Not to say he can outright contain him, but he does a good job limiting his shots especially on the perimeter.

awwwww.... my very own thread... thats so sweet...
Bro... seriously... what about this couldnt be said in the other 2 threads about this? Was this thread really nessissary?
And what is your obsession with J-Will? You keep talking about him. He isnt going to be a key to this series. You need to worry about D-Wade and the Diesel...

Exept in the WCS this season. Dirk abused Bowen when he finally realized the way to beat the smaller defenders was to take them down low. That's why the Heat are screwed. Dirk will walk past Haslem, and out muscle Posey. While the Mavs contain players that can keep the Heat's stars in check, Miami will not have an answer for Nowitzki.
In this years playoffs Nowitzki has established himself as one of the top players in the NBA, he has added toughess, and leadership which have made him the most complete player in the NBA. and the most lethal scorer in the NBA.

You didnt "contain" Wade last night. He put up 28pts and still missed a decent amount of free throws.

First I would like to say I dont give a crap about either of these teams so I'm not biased in any way. The other thing I want to say is the last time I checked letting a player have a stat line of
11-25 for 28 Pts
6 Rebs
6 Assists
4 steals
1 block
Is not what anyone would consider "containing" him. If Dallas keeps "containing" Wade like that, I would then suggest you tape the game Sunday night b/c that will be the last NBA game played in Dallas till late October early November
The Mavs won the game but they didnt stop Wade
If I was the Mavs I would be worried that Dirk only had 16 last night w/ 0 points coming in the 4thQ. The Heat showed that they could keep Dirk in check. This should worry Dallas fans b/c if they think Terry is going to win this series for them they are sadly mistaken. If Dirk does that again Sunday I will be surprised if the out come is the same. Sunday night is a big game for Dirk, he needs to come out and make a statment.

He did most of his damage in the 1st half, by the second half he seemed a bit tired and did not have enough to finish when he got to the rim.
Dallas has alot of guys like Terry, Griffin, and Howard they can throw on Wade to give him different looks and try to throw him off. Wade will get his numbers as superstars tend to do, but what happened in game one is a real bad sign for the Heat. They played their best game in the 1st half and Dallas took that and came back to dominate in the second half. I really can't see Miami playing any better then they did in that half so they are in big trouble.
Dirk won't have another game one either, so what will the Heat do when Dirk has a big game to go alone with the likes of Terry, Stack, and Howard?
One other thing that really bothers me is that I always hear that Shaq's FT shooting never hurts his teams as evidence by the hack a shaq method never working for the opposition. But when your down by 10 woth 5 minutes left it's tough to come back. But a game like Game 1 shows how Shaq's FT shooting kills his team. If Shaq hit at least half of his free throws the Heat don't lose by 10 and might even win.

Ya, Wade is still sick. He did slow down a little in the 2nd half. I am hoping he is better by Sunday. However, I dont see you even containing Wade this series. He had a very good game, while sick. As this series continues, he is only going to get healthier. Griffen is going to be your best option to defend Wade. Terry is horrible on defense... so I'm not even concerned with him. Howard would be the best choice, but I cant see him effectivly guarding Wade's quickness and crossovers with both of his ankles sprained.
And... the Heat didnt come close to playing their best in the first half. I think they shot 28% in the 2nd quarter. They played great in the 1st quarter... but played horrible for the next 3.
2nd of all, they didnt "dominate" in the 2nd half. The Mavs as a team didnt play well either. It was a close game the whole time until we rested Wade with like 8 min left in the 4th. When Wade left the floor, the Mavs stretched the lead to where it ended.
And Dirk really didnt have that bad of a game. He hit all of his open shots... and when they figured out how to get J-Will matched up on him. But for most of the night, there was someone constantly in his face. He didnt get many easy shots. Haslem played GREAT defense on him. And when he was in foul trouble, Posey played real well on him too. We will see if the Mavs figure out how to get him more open looks.
And about Shaq's freethrows... they hurt. They dont hurt that bad, when he shoots 50% and he is still scoring 25-30 pts a game. But when he isnt getting the ball much (only 11 attempts) and on top of that he shoots 1/10... THAT hurts. Dont let anyone tell you differently...

I'm believe Dallas will win this championship, because of all the different defensive sets/players they can show you to throw your game off, and Miami just didn't show me that they could contain terry, howard, griffin, stackhouse, or even harris for that matter. They beat the heats defense on many occasions, and you can not expect anyone to hold dirk under 20 pts in consecutive games (it just won't happen) in my eyes Dallas is the favorite to win.

Well, we didnt even have one of our best defenders playing defense on their top scorers like Terry. We put Wade on whatever scrub was on the floor to rest him because he is sick. I am really hoping he is better, because if so, he can easily control Terry. If Wade is guarding him, there is no chance Terry puts up 30 pts shooting 70%... or even anything close. If Wade is 100%... he doesnt put up 20.
And it wasnt like Dirk really had a bad night. He hit all the open shots he got, or when they figured out how to get him matched up on J-Will(huge mismatch). But for the most part, our team just played excellent defense on him. Haslem and Posey had a hand in his face all night.

Not looking good for your Heat FN23
Dirk needed to make a statment and he did
The Heat now have to win all 3 games in Miami to have a shot so they can hope to steal a game 6 or 7 in Dallas b/c I cant see them going back there and getting both. Its now a do or die game 3

Ya, I dont really want to talk about it... I am pretty upset...
I dont know about Dirk making a statement though. He wasnt doing much until Haslem got hurt. Posey played some pretty good defense on him too. Scoring wise, we held him under his average again. Rebounds are something a 7ft'er is always going to get.
He had a good game... but I wouldnt go as far as calling it a "statement"...
But back to the series... ya... I am pretty miserable. I thought last nights game was a must win. The only thing that is cheering me up is that our role players (J-Will, Walker, Posey, Haslem) play and shoot alot better at home... and we need our role players to step up. Wade and Shaq cant do it alone...

Well he didnt make a Jordan 69 point statment
But 26 points and 16 reb showed that they cant go soft on him for even a Min
The Heat need alot more from Shaq
5 Points aint going to cut it. You need him to score around 25 or more a night the rest of the way

ya... we cant win if Shaq is in single diget points and rebounds. Simple as that. Players need to start hitting open shots and making the Mavs pay for their double/tripple teams on Shaq.
However, if Haslem isnt healthy, we are as good as done. Haslem has shutdown both Rasheed Wallace and Dirk in this postseason. But without him, we cant contain Dirk. Posey has played well on him, but not like Haslem...

The Mavs will probably win the series and I would love to see Dirk do well, but he is looking like anything but an MVP caliber player against the Heat.
2 for 14 is disgusting, especially when you are the go to guy. Shaq has been double & triple teamed and is scoring - while Diiiiiirk can't sink a layup.
At this point the only thing worse than having the Mavs lose is having Zo win a championship. In my opinion that guy is the ultimate sleaze-bag mercinary in the NBA. He dropped the Heat like a bad smell, to look for a championship in Jersey and when that wasn't going to happen, played the "kidney card". He screwed the Raptors on the "kidney card" and was payed $10 million and then rejoined the Heat for the vet minimum knowing that they had a good chance to WIN. Now he is playing at an extemely high level of play (suprisingly - no kidney problem) and is being looked at as a guy who is willing to take a cut in pay to be part of a winning team. As much as I love to follow the game - Zo - in my mind, is a lot of what is bad with the NBA - when it comes to the players.

Shaq actually wasnt really scoring on any of your double or triple teams. He didnt really do too much in the 1st half when he was seeing the doubles. But Wade just was going off, and it forced them to stop doubling Shaq. Once that happened, Shaq was able to actually back down and post of a defender 1v1... and we all know Diop or Dampier cant stop Shaq by themselves.
While Shaq had a pretty good game. This game was all about Wade again... the guy is just amazing...
