View Full Version : Adrian Aucoin? Possible Chicago D-man could be had...

Theres no official link but it makes sense. Chiacgo is a terrible team with aging veterans. They're going to be rebuilding for a while. One of the few gems on that team might be Adrian Aucoin. Sure he makes 4mil per season and was injusry prone for the B-Hawks, but I remeber him with the Islanders and he was a kingpin. He logged tons of ice time, was tough in his own end, and had a booming shot from the point. If the Sabres could trade for someone like that to solidify their blueline that would be awsome.

Tallinder
Numminen
Aucoin
Lydman
Cambell
Mckee
Janek-Seventh D Man

That would be a pretty solid D-Core, and Janek could very well be the 6th d man if Numminen or Mckee leaves.

If the Sabres wanted to spend 4 million on defensemen, they would spend 3 of it on Jay McKee and 1 on some third tier UFA.

One defenseman that I really like is Joe Corvo. He is a UFA and I don't think his price tag would be extreme. He did have like 40 points last year and he would fit into this system. He doesn't have a stellar past, but I think he is over his past issues. This team would be a good fit.

Paetsch should be on this team.

Any defensive aquistions we make depend on Mckee and Teppo

I see lock up McKee and then go from there.

Lydman-Tallinder
McKee-Campbell
Kalinin-Paetch/Janik/Jillson/?

I did forget Kalinin. Sorry. Will he play with the intensity that he did these playoffs during the regular season? Remains to be seen.

The only way I could see Aucoin becoming a possibilty is if numminen and mckee left.

I don't want Aucoin

I want:
Lydman/Tallinder
McKee/Campbell
Kalinin/Nummenin

 Aucoin?!?! I'll give you some credit, I wouldn't want him but I'd rather him over Redden, like some people want.

I agree with you, although I would be ready rotate Paestch in there as a #7 or #8, and I would try to sign a lower end free agent d-man to compete with Paestch and Janik, in case Teppo's heart causes some problems.

Come to think of it, I'm sure Gonchar "could be had" too.

Corvo would be a great fit for the Sabres. He's had some off ice issues, but they seem to be in the past. His career is peaking.

He would seem to be a Sabre type signing. I just can't see them spending 4-5 million on any player. Corvo would probably be a 2-3 million a year guy.

And can we stop with Paestch? The guy played one game, and was decently average. Everyone on this board has already put him on the team next year. It may happen, but let's see more than 1 game.

If there's anyone we should be impressed by, it's Janik. He was rough the first few games, but he looked very solid by the end of the series..

I disagree on this. Either Paetsch plays in the top 6 for the parent club, or as the kingpin for the Amerks. If Numminen goes away, that opens a spot for him. But if Numminen stays, we'll need a #7 better than Janik or Paetsch who we'd all be comfortable with at #8 and #9 I think. McKee would have to be replaced with a like player who can eat minutes and PK, like a Karlis Skrastins.

To me, Janik is ready to be a #7 in the league. He's developed all he's ever going to develop in the AHL. Paetsch can still get better, but won't do it from the pressbox in Buffalo. Cut bait with Fitzpatrick and Jillson and get some young'uns developing in Rochester.

I dont want Aucoin...he was a minus 13 this year, and is INJURY PRONE...We dont need anymore injury prone defensemen.

I think I read this on another thread...but I love the idea....

Trade Biron and a draft pick, to Tampa for Pavel Kubina.

I'd love to keep McKee, but if it isnt possible, a move like this would be essential

Probably will take a lot more than Biron and a draft pick to get Kubina from Tampa. The main reason Tampa would dump Kubina is because of his salary, but Biron has a pretty expensive salary too. There will be many goaltenders available, as the Sharks will probably dumb Nabakov; Dwayne Roloson will be available, Manny Legace from the Wings will probably be available, as well as Andrew Raycroft from the Bruins. Theres probably a lot of other ones too. Look for Tampa to consider a goaltender with playoff experience like Nabakov or Roloson or even Legace over Biron.

I think if we payed Wade could be ours, we're an old divison team, we're headed in the right direction and thats one thing he's sai he wants is a team headed for the cup and he found out first hand where we're going...

Any defenseman Buffalo looks at would not only need to be able to skate and move but would need to posess more toughness to keep the opposing forwards from skating through and around our goal crease at will as Carolina did.

-13? WHO THE HELL CARES?

You want to get rid of Drury (-11)? Campbell (-5 in the postseason, where he played excellent)?

The Biron+ for Kubina is a good idea, or rather, it would be if Kubina was not an UFA.

Why? So Tim Connolly would get the pleasure of owning him in practice every day?

Letting Jillson stay up with the big club would be cheaper.

Paetsch as a #6? Hmm, that would be risky, although it may be necessary if we lose Mckee. I'm not 100% sold on him yet, although he did play well in that last game.
The reason I like him as a #7 is that, unless I'm mistaken, he has a two-way contract, so he can shuffle to Rochester and back without having to clear waivers.

Numminen is too much of a risk, solid but only if he's playing.
Jillson isn't really that good. Paetsch is untested. Aucoin is not happening, too much money. stop the silly trade rumors

i think you are right on regier said that one of the Rochester guys would play a big role next here and I believe it will be this kid for sure.

I agree and heres why

"We think that one of the guys will step up from Rochester and has the chance to play next year," Regier said. "It'll depend on Jay McKee. It'll depend on Teppo Numminen. Fitzie also is an unrestricted free agent. Down the line, we're hoping to keep McKee and Numminen here. If that works out, we won't see many changes. If it doesn't we would have a couple [of openings]."

Yeah, obviously he's not *that* bad, but Redden hasn't had a good playoffs in his career yet, and he plays the left side....not a good fit for us.
