"The station, WGMD in Delaware, has produced pretty damning evidence that the bands last single ‘Dani California’ is a rip off of a Tom Petty track...." (http://commonsense.wnymedia.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=320&Itemid=43)

I heard the Petty, but no Peppers sample.

They are definately similar, but i think there is enough of a difference, its nothing like the Ice Ice Baby and Under Pressure feud.

I think Ice paid to Rip "Pressure". This is a Rip-Off.

A staggering array of songs have similar chord progressions.
This is nothing unusual.
It's like the whole Run Through The Jungle (CCR) vs Old Man Down The Road (John Fogerty solo) fued in the 80's.
Same tempo, similar sound, different music.
And if anyone recalls, John Fogerty won a legal battle over it. Which was stupid, seeing how he was being sued for ripping off his own song.
Besides, the Chili Peppers have a much different (as well as much better) chorus & solo in Dani California.

For real.
The Peppers get better with age.
What the hell has Tom Petty done since 1993?
He had that crappy ass "You Don't Know What It's Like" song in the mid-90's, I guess.
Oh, & he does NBA commercial now.
Awesome career move.

There are probably 1000's of songs that use that chord progression....

The Petty song has the hammer-ons and upstrums that give it a bluesy feel.

I just can't get into the Peppers. Enough songs with California in it already, find something new, and new music, to write. No wonder they stole from Petty tho, all his sound alike too.

i kind of agree about the peppers. a lot of there stuff sounds similar, dont get me wrong i like them but their stuff wears thin w/ me quick.
oddly enough my favorite album of theirs is "one hot minute" the one album they say they hate.

About the best thing I have to say about them is Point Break and Keidis' role. And that's not saying much.

Nope. At least not as much as having those Wham!UK posters you keep on your profile at BFC. Oops, I forgot they sucked ass so much they had to merge with another board below the Range.

Weird.
Not too many people prefer the Dave Navarro fashioned Chile Peppers.
I love One Hot Minute, but I still prefer John Frusciante's style.
