The photo above was taken on the very first public tour given in the newly reopened Central Terminal in June of 2003. I call this the “Shock and Awe” tour, because even though 300 tons of debris had just been removed from the concourse and the tower’s windows had just been sealed, the conditions you found there could only have been described as “depressing”. I had been there for the first time in my life just the month before, for the Spring clean up, and it literally made me cry, as much for the condition as for the awesome spiritual beauty. From that moment on, I had been “hooked”, as only my CTRC brothers and sisters can truly understand.

I offer this article to you all because I am very proud of my CTRC family and of our accomplishments in the past three years. I think we all need a reminder that average people, like me and you, can make a difference in our community!

The Central Terminal is very much ALIVE! It’s now home to rental venues, such as weddings, university art shows (University at Buffalo) and corporate seminars (Red Bull), as well as our own self-sponsored events, student art shows, car shows, model train shows, Buffalo Brewfest and Oktoberfest.

The future is getting brighter for our beloved Art Deco train station and for the Broadway Fillmore district!

Thanks Rick! I post this not to pat myself on the back at all, but to recognize the incredible, long term efforts of my colleagues and how far we've all come. We're all so entrenched in work there, that we don't often take time to reflect.

The CTRC family is truly the best group of people in Buffalo, bar none. We sometimes disagree, bicker, fight... but it's out of a sense of passion I haven't seen elsewhere. To keep up that level of energy for 8 or 9 years is truly amazing. This project is so enormous, it could eat you up and spit you out. We've all promised each other that we're in it to end, whether that be redevelopment, or turning it over to the next generation to care for.

You all deserve so much more than just a congrats, IMO. Even my staff has fighting, disagreements etc. but we work for one goal much like your people, in the end it's all worth it. I look forward to the day that I can join up with you all and contribute. Home is back on the market so maybe the 2nd time around will be a charm.
