Majority in U.S. see Iran as a threat
WASHINGTON, May 12 (UPI) -- Two-thirds of U.S. residents see Iran as a security threat, and 58 percent say it's inevitable Iran will use nuclear weapons if it has them.
A clear partisan divide has emerged with regard to the issue of Iran, a Zogby poll shows. Ninety-three percent of Republicans viewed Iran as a threat as well as 63 percent of independents. Democrats were split, with 42 percent viewing Iran as a threat and 43 percent believing there is no threat to the United States.
While Americans back the limited use of the military to thwart Iranian nuclear ambitions, there is no desire among any group for a protracted involvement like in neighboring Iraq, with just 26 percent in support of the U.S. bringing about regime change.
While 66 percent view Iran as a threat to the United States, 85 percent see it as a threat to Israel.
A narrow 55 percent majority favor intervening to prevent an attack on Israel by Iran, and a stronger 58 percent would back the U.S. retaliating against Iran if it attacked Israel.
The new Zogby Interactive survey included 5,892 respondents nationwide between April 28 and May 1, 2006, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus 1.3 percentage points.

The press, for the first few years of Bush's term, gave W the kid glove treatment. And even now, they still pull their punches. They're reacting to the news that's out there and not,for the most part, breaking their own stories.
Compare that to Clinton, and I think you'll see it's night and day. I'm not defending Bill by any stretch-he wasn't been a saint, but at least if he :censor:ed up it wasn't blatantly out there for all to see.

Why did Nehe turn this into a Bush issue?
Because it is a Bush issue. He is the one who got us in the clustershit in Iraq. He could very easily get us in the same situation in Iran only this time they supposedly have nuclear capabilities.
Those who ****eth up once are destined to ****eth up again.

Why are you so blind to the threat posed by Iran?
A failed Iraqi strategy does NOT mean Iran is of the same stuff. DO NOT make that mistake.
The only stupidity involved is the stupid people that allow crazy radical Muslim rulers to get ahold of nuclear weapons. IN NO WAY shall we EVER have a Chamberlain to ignore the warning signs!!!!

I agree that barring a miracle Iran will have to be dealt with at some point, however it concerns me that:
1. We are still pumping a ton of resources into Iraq and will be stretched very thin if/when we go to Iran. But more importantly
2. The same people who made the "failed Iraqi strategy" will be the ones leading the way to Iran. What's to say that they will do any better a 2nd time around? And if they can't pull a solid strategy together for Iran we're in deep shit.
That concerns me.

That concerns me. In the event we go after them it would be approached much differently. Your right it would be deep shit but only if they were allowed to get better prepared. They believe like you we will not attack now because of Iraq thats one of our many advantages. The 2 countries are much different Iran and Iraq support to overthrow their leader is much more prominent. Their threat is more serious to us and our allies and for that matter the rest of the free world.

Investigate phone spying, Clark says
The former NATO commander is stumping for Leonard Boswell on a two-day Iowa visit.
THOMAS BEAUMONT
REGISTER STAFF WRITER
May 13, 2006
Retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark said in Iowa Friday that the Bush administration's tracking of millions of private telephone calls as part of its war on terrorism warranted a full congressional investigation.
The former NATO commander and 2004 Democratic candidate for president said Congress needs to sort out the controversy as a way of maintaining its check on the presidential power.
"If you have a president, for reasons he believes are legitimate for national security, who is accused of misleading people about the extent of the program, and nobody knows what the extent of the program is, then I think a full congressional investigation is mandated," Clark said.
The Bush administration is facing questions about its regard for civil liberties after the disclosure that the National Security Agency collected information on millions of Americans' telephone calls.
At the heart of the matter is Gen. Michael Hayden, who was in charge of the surveillance program and is now Bush's nominee to become director of the Central Intelligence Agency.
Clark was on the first leg of a two-day Iowa trip, campaigning for U.S. Rep. Leonard Boswell, a Des Moines Democrat seeking re-election this year.
Clark planned to meet with Polk County Democrats Friday before traveling to Cedar Rapids today to meet with activists who supported him in 2004.
Clark also plans to headline a meeting of the Hawkeye Labor Council in Cedar Rapids tonight.
Although Clark has said he is weighing a second presidential bid in 2008, he declined to discuss it Friday.
Iowa will host the lead-off Democratic nominating caucuses in 2008, and some party activists hope Clark runs again.
Lu Ann Pedrick of Urbandale was a Clark supporter in 2004, although Clark did not campaign in Iowa. Pedrick, a project coordinator for the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care, said Clark's tactic of skipping Iowa was a mistake she hopes he does not repeat if he runs in 2008.
"I hope he does run," Pedrick said. "And this time he should come to Iowa."
However, some party activists say Clark has not worked as hard as other would-be candidates to stay in touch with potential backers.
Clark, who was making his second trip to Iowa since the election, said he was focused on helping Democrats retake control of Congress.
However, Clark has said he would consider running if national security remained a top priority for voters in 2008.
"I haven't really thought about that," he said. "What I want to talk about is 2006."

it was the republicans that started this whole cycle of venomous hate and theirs was based on nothing but blind partisan contempt. THIS president has committed real and grave sins upon our country and the world and wont be put on trial simply because we were stupid enough to allow one party to control both major parts of government simultaneously
