In SI's "What to watch and watch for" section of 5/15/06 edition, the Bandits game was named "Pick of the Week" with a picture of Steve Dietrich and John Tavares and the following caption:
"Saturday 5/13
Working-Class Heroes- Not that old story again: A team's title hopes rides on the manager of a paper-shredding company and a former supermarket bakery clerk. the Buffalo Bandits advanced to the National Lacrosse League championship game thanks to goaltender Steve Dietrich (left), who led the NLL in goals-against average when not running a local Shred-It, and John Tavares (right), who gave up his $15-an-hour day job shortly before breaking the NLL career scoring mark. The man he passed, Gary Gait, now coaches the Colorado Mammoth, the Bandits' opponent in today's Champion's Cup. ESPN2 6 p.m."
