I put an email in to my former coach just to be sure, but I believe this kid is the first Eagle to ever sign an NFL contract.

Since he signed as a free agent, I'm sure his odds are long. But I'll be pulling for him.

Got this story from the Cheektowaga Times......

Cleve Hill's Burton signs with Broncos

Antwon Burton, a 2001 graduate of Cleveland Hill High School, will attempt to make the roster of the National Football League's Denver Broncos, as the Temple University defensive tackle signed a three-year contract at the completion of the seventh round of Sunday's draft.

Denver signed Burton, who also played two seasons of junior college football at Erie Community College, to a three-year rookie minimum contact, which includes base salaries of $275,000; $365,000; and $465,000 over the span of the contract.

Burton, who spent Sunday in Buffalo with his mother, LaDoris, said he couldn't be happier about the deal.

"It's pretty exciting," the 6-foot, 3-inch, 315-pound tackle said. "(The contract) is a lot of money for a 22year-old. I'm excited to go to Denver and learn the system. I'm ready for whatever comes my way."

Burton, who said he will report to the Broncos' training camp on May 15, noted Denver and Kansas City expressed interest in him on draft day. He stated Denver, which didn't own a seventh round pick, offered him a contract during the seventh round. Chiefs' officials then informed Burton that they would draft

either him or safety Jarrad Page with their seventh-round selection. Kansas City ended up drafting Page, and Burton accepted the Broncos' offer.

"Denver put the offer out there," said Burton, who stated he aimed to use part of the money to spend on his mother. "My mom's been a constant influence for me throughout my life. I owe her a lot."

Now, all Burton has to do is make the squad of the defending AFC West Division champions. He said he aims to learn a lot on the practice field early on.

"It's going to be interesting to go on the field and compete with players of such a high level," the Cleve Hill graduate said. "I want to go out there and work hard."

Denver defensive line coach Andre Patterson, who called Burton on draft day, did not return calls made by the Times as of Wednesday afternoon.

In about 10 years, I'm hoping we could make a pretty solid operatic lead cast from graduates of my high school. There's one guy who's guaranteed to be one of the best true basses of the last 25 years, and I graduated with (and go to college with now) a great mezzo and a great soprano. If I can get it together to provide the tenor, that'd be some awesome shit right there.

Not that anybody on a sports board cares, but still.

That was a very odd post.

Interesting. But odd.

He's still the head coach at Maryvale.

His son was a really good WR, I believe, at Depew recently. I remember when he was born.

My how time flies.

I still can't get over that, I went to JFK and I remember watching him play against our Varisty team when I was on JV. Good for him though.

(CHS >) JFK > Cleve Hill :D

Did you play at The Ralph ("Rich" at the time)? I did.
Did you win a Class Championship there? I did.
Did you have an INT there, Mr. DB? I did.

So, CHHS > CHS > JFK (not even in the discussion.....they sucked......sorry EM 80.....I never lost to them in 4 years.......I believe we beat them 50-something to 6 my senior year).

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Go Eagles!

Currently we have Nick Goings of the Panthers, Ike Ndukwe of the Redskins and Dave Kadela also with the Panthers. Next year Jay Richardson and Brady Quinn.

JFK>CHS>Cleve Hill
At least when I went there, and that was before the playoffs at the Ralph had begun.

Nice find, Coach.

My daughter is attending Duke University basketball camp in July. She has her sights set on playing for the Blue Devils' women's team in seven years. I hope she can nail a full ride.

I DO NOT want her playing in the professional lesbians' basketball league.

Just keep her away from the lacrosse team's parties.

How tall is she? What position?

Interesting response I got when I emailed my former coach to ask him if this was the first CHHS player to sign in the NFL.....

My old teamate from the 70's, Mike Dombrowski, was with the Steelers in
1981. He played at Pitt with Marino. Mike got speared by Jack Lambert in
practice and spent the last 10 days of camp in the hospital with a
lacerated kidney. Mike might be the best athlete from here ever but he
was one kidney shot away from the top.

I was talking about the whole thing coach but if you want to stick to football... JFK has beat Cleve Hill the last 2 years I believe (and that's all that matters because thats when I started caring), and dominated them in JV for the championship prior 2 years ago too. They might have an NFL player in Rayshawn Boldin (WR, WVU) next year. I have some homies from there so I gotta represent.

But Clarence still pwns them all... We have a Super Bowl champ from our school btw. :p

She's 12 years old.

She's 5-foot, 8-inches tall. 145 pounds. Size 11 women's sneaker. Center, obviously, on Gus Macker and YMCA championship teams locally.

She is my giant.

What the hell are you talking about?!?!?!

Go to the Cheektowaga Times archives and look that up. I'll save you the trouble.......here are the results of the last SIX meetings:

2005 - CHHS 14-12
2004 - CHHS 12-0
2003 - CHHS 49-6
2002 - CHHS 26-7
2001 - CHHS 42-21
2000 - CHHS (Couldn't find the score, but they only lost 1 game that year, and that was to Portville).

I couldn't find anything past that.

So, looks like things haven't changed much over the years. It shouldn't even be a rivalry anymore since it's so one-sided.

And who the hell cares about their JV teams?!?! The only people that care about JV games are the JV coaches, players, and parents.

Now, comparing Clarence to CHHS or JFK isn't fair. It's a much bigger school (population) and will always have more chances to produce more college athletes (and beyond). When I went to CHHS there were 350 kids there. I think there's about 450-500 now, but I could be wrong. JFK is similar. That's why they're Class C. Clarence is at least B, right? Maybe A? I don't know off hand.

But CHHS has good athletes and always has. If the school had the population of some of the bigger WNY schools there would definitley be some more products produced. We did have the Connolly Cup winner in 1988. Trevor Sajdak. I received a CC nomination my senior year.

Clarence was known as a good football program when I was in HS, too.

I doubt Ray Ray makes it to the L. He's an excellent reciever but he plays in a system that isnt friendly to WR's in WV. He was an okay blocker when he tried. He does have the size so Ill never say never, but I dont think its likely at this point.
