View Full Version : Will the Jets trade up to the 2nd Pick of the draft to Select RB Reggie Bush

Jets are gonna trade their 4th and 29th to get up to the 2 spot and get bush. They might have to add a third, but maybe not. Either way, I think Reggie Bush is going to be a Jet come Saturday afternoon.
Saints won't take Bush because they gave Deuce a huge contract extention only last year, and their needs are elsewhere. They will take Hawk at 4, and be able to draft another impact guy at 29.

Hawk for Bush and that later pick won`t be all the Saints want to get out of this the price will be much steeper.

I think Bush will be a good player, but not nearly the threat that some expect.
The Texans are making a wise decision.
I definitely expect the Saints to move out of the spot because of the value they'll receive, but I'm not bold enough to predict it will be the Jets.
On a side note, I think the Bills are going to trade down in the hopes of Winston Justice being there.
I would personally stand pat and take Bunkley.
It's going to be a fun day.

Bush doesn't have the value to the Saints as he has for other teams.
You have to think of the possible suitors. The only teams that have a legit chance are going to be teams within 3 spots of the pick, because anybody else would have to pay way too much according to the value chart. The titans have Brown and traded a 3rd for Henry, so I don't see them making a deal for Bush, and the Packers would have to give up A LOT to get him. They would have to give up their 5th overall, their 2nd and 3rd and a #1 next year. Too much for a team looking to shore up way too many holes, and the Saints would rather get the picks this year. So the Jets are the only team that is close enough to trade up and has two #1s. According to the value chart, the Jets would need to add something to the offer, but I think the Jets have the leverage here..

Actually first you said Bush wouldn't be taken first, but I take it you meant that Houston won't trade him, and I agreed that they shouldn't, but I still felt they would.
And then you predicted Jets would trade up to 1st to take Bush #1, and Houston would go down to 4. Either way, you're kind right. I said in January that Houston should go down to 4......it would be the smart thing to do. But I guess the fell in love with Williams and knew they wouldn't get him if they passed up on him at the #1.

i think NO trades with the Jets and takes D'brick since they dont have Gandy anymore... have 2 young tackles who are projected to be studs in the NFL.. that'll help brees out for sure

It's pretty obvious that the Saints will want to move down, but my guess is they will not want to move down too far. What's not so obvious is how badly the Jets will want to move up. They know the market for the Saints' spot will be limited. The draft value chart suggests that the Jets would need to give up thier second and third round picks for the privilege of moving up too spots to take Bush. Bush obviously fills a big need, but will the Jets want to give up that much. If they don't, who will the Saints get to trade with? It's possible the Saints will be stuck with that pick. Then what do they do? Take Bush and hope they can pull off a trade after the draft to reduce the glut of high priced running backs, or do they pick for need and draft D'Brick to replace the departed Wayne Gandy. The Texans have just put the Saints in a terrible spot if the Jets hesitate trading with them.

2) Saints - AJ Hawk
3) Titans - Matt Leinart
4) Jets - Reggie Bush
5) Packers - Davis
6) 49ers - Huff
7) Raiders - Vince Young
8) us - D'Brick!!!!!!!!!!!!
If this happens, I'm renaming the dog D'brickashaw, since my wife already said no to renaming our son D'brick.

A reporter on ESPN said a team in the "Top 8" has made a serious offer for the #2 pick.
Just funny he said top 8 and not top 10.
I know Donahoe is gone, but with the signing of Reyes, the 8th pick, Nate Clements, and our 2nd rounder for Pick #2 and S Dwight Smith would interesting IMO.

Very unlikely.
Especially to draft a guy that would fit a position we are already set in.
But honestly, I don't know how I would feel about that pick. I would hate giving up our 2nd Clements to draft a RB, adding a hole to our team and decreasing the number of draft picks.
That would be pretty bad.

Not if we get Brick, BECAUSE of the trade.
If Young goes at #3 and Hawk at #4, one of Brick, Davis, or Leinert likely fall through.
Wonder if the Bills would trade a 3rd to move up to #5 and take the guy who would have been the #1 pick in 2005. Clearly the Pack and SF won't draft Leinert. He'd be the steal of the century (all 6 years of it) at #6.

No one is set at the position Reggie Bush plays. No one in the NFL plays TB, WR, KR like he can. A RB that runs a sub-4.4 with hands! Bush would be a top 10 pick as a WR. He's Eric Metcalf meets Walter Payton.

Everyteam has a RB.
Saints have McCalister, Titans have Brown and Henry, Packers have Green, Lions have Jones, Raiders have Lamont Jordan and all of them are in the Bush mix right now, per Lenny P.
Texans had Davis, everyone thought he was still going there because he is special.
Bush can make as big an impact at WR as he can at RB. So he can fit anywhere.

Yes, but Texans had the #1 pick and thus Reggie was an option, as opposed to us who would have to give away the 8, a pro bowl CB and a 2nd round pick for a chance to draft a RB, when we have Willis.
Saints do have McAllister (although coming off an injury), and that is why they won't take Bush. When you got a player like Deuce, and the money invested in him as of last year, giving #1 money to Bush at the second spot doesn't make sense, especially when they have so many other holes.
Packers have a RB that has been injured, is getting up there in age, and is only signed to an average contract for 1 year. So their interest is not shocking to me at all. They actually have a need at RB.
Just like the Jets, who have a need at RB behind an aging Martin who will most likely be released after this season is over.
The Raiders are a team run by Al Davis, so trying to argue logic is a waste of time when it comes to them.
There is no chance in hell Lions go after Bush. They would have to give up much to get him, and for what? To get another RB when they already have Jones....oh wait..he can play WR...so yeah, that might happen.
Titans due have a need a RB despite Henry and Brown. Henry didn't do anything for them last year and Brown is very injury prone. They both also have modest contracts.
Titans, Jets, Packers are the only teams that will have a legit chance at Bush for two reasons. 1) they all are close enough so they don't have to break the draft pick bank to get up to # two and 2) they all have a need at RB.

I defended Clements when all the trade talk was poping up on these boards, but damn, Woodson's #'s 7 years 52 million has made me think trade because there is no way Nate takes less then that.
I think in a cover 2, Troy Vincent has atleast 1 or 2 solid years left in him at CB.
I would seriously think of that trade. We would get a probowl quality Saftey and a playmaker on offense that can do anything.
It wont happen, but I really think the Saints would jump all over that offer and I think the Bills would get better as a result..

Well I think the Saints would jump at the offer, but I think that would be an horrible trade for us.
We would have a disgruntled RB in McGahee, who would go into next season the same way Henry did, will underperform and then we'd have to trade him for a 3rd, maybe 2nd at best. Then we put 26+ dollars of guaranteed money into a RB, give up a big part of our defense, and our 2nd round pick which would result in a starting player.
I think if the Bills wanted to get some media attention, it would be the thing to do, but I still think for our football team and the future, it would be bad move.
Don't get me wrong, having Bush take handoffs at the Ralph is very attractive, the price is too steep.

Depends on how good you think Bush is.
All I know is the Bills were interested in FS Dwight SMith, the Saints need a CB. The Bills have a CB playing FS that could fill in at a high level at CB in the cover 2 system atleast one year maybe 2. It is possible, but it just depends on how good the Bills feel Bush is.

I like Dwight Smith, I even said about a month ago or so that I would give up a 4th for him. He's played in the cover 2 before in Tampa and has been productive and is under 30, so he's a good option. I just don't think Vincent is quick enough to play CB anymore in the league, even in the cover 2.
Lets say we will take Bunkley in the first.
Then we can take possible Joseph/Hali/Lutui....maybe even an Adbul Hodge (lets say for the sake of the argument we take Hali, who I think will be tehre).
So would
Bush + Smith > Clements + Bunkley + Hali ???
I don't know.....I would lean towards no.
If we had a hole at RB, then I would lean towards yes.
And I think Bush is as good as advertised to answer your question. He is going to be an explosive back.

That would actually be a very good trade for the Saints. They will have their QB of the future in Brees, Horn and Stallworth, have Deuce, add Walker, and fall down to 5 where they will take a guy they have wanted all along imo....A.J Hawk.
I think that trade would be perfect for both teams.

I think we'll take Bunkley unless Vernon Davis is still on the board, then we'll trade down.

You know, that's actually a really interesting angle.
I've been a Vincent believer for a long time and based on what I've seen, I do believe he could hold up at corner in this particular defense for a season or two.
I'm opposed to this trade because I am not enthralled with Bush, but I would feel more comfortable parting with Clements for something big because of Vincent.
Corner would immediately become a position we'd have to address for the future, but if it doesn't look good contract wise and we get a great offer, I think we'd be OK.

The Jets WILL trade up to get Bush. Because it's a perfect fit and he won't be there at 4. The Saints can trade all the way down to 6 if they want and get Hawk, D'Brick or Davis. All players that can really help them. The Jets won't risk it.

hmm now that is interesting. Draft Reggie Bush and use him as a WR/RB. Ya know that could work. Willis would be your #1 RB (has the size to take the punishment) and use Bush as a change up. You can have Bush play as a Wide out so both players are on the field so they aren't really sharing time. Could be very interesting if the Bills have the insight to do that.

What is really sad is if we lost to Cincinatti we would have the 2nd overall pick. I blame Ralph for not giving the staff a vote of confidence and telling them the season is over and you need to start honing the team for next year. We should of been playing guys we are developing in that game. Duke Preston should of been at Center etc. Could you imagine if we could of traded the 2nd pick now? We could of gotton two 1st round picks. I think that is what Bush is going to attract to land him.
Yes it is a professional sport and you don't throw games, but when you are out of the playoff's you should be looking at games as practice for next year. Lossman should of started. 1 game cost us 7 picks!
