I think he could go in the late first to the mid 2nd, but he is by no means a top 10 pick

If the Bills drop into the 20's and picked him then, ok I can live w/ that, as long as they stockpile a bunch of 1st dayers

But there is no way in Hell we are taking him at 8

As much as I hate safeties, I didn't mind the GBN having us take this guy in the 3rd:

http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/expert/brandt/s

Daniel Bullocks, Nebraska (6-0½, 212, 4.40)
Bullocks had a complete workout at the Combine. He ran his 40s in 4.39 and 4.41, had a 38-inch vertical jump, 10-foot-4 long jump, 4.16 short shuttle, 6.91 three-cone drill, and did 18 lifts. He was a quarterback and free safety in high school, and was named Mr. Tennessee for football in 2000 when he rushed for 1,432 yards, passed for five touchdowns and also caught 10 passes. After redshirting in 2001, he started 10 games in 2002 and '03, and started 23 games in his junior and senior campaigns. He is a very competitive player, physical, very instinctive, great character, and is a hard worker with good athletic ability. However, he lacks good hands and will drop some interceptions. Bullocks will play at a high level for a long time.

Good speed, agility, size, etc, (4.4 with a 40" vertical and good cone and shuttle times) but one of the problems was playing on a bad Nebraska D. Seems to be a good value in the 3rd.

Why do people's mocks change every wk? Ngata, Spencer, Stovall, Trueblood.

there are a couple of SS that would be good options in the 3rd. Pollard is another I'd like in the 3rd. Whitner has shot up to the 1st in most mocks, but I don't think he is much better than Bing, Daniel Manning (who may be seen as a CB or FS as well) or Pollard, only only marginally better than Bullocks. They all pale next to Huff. If they are thinking SS, the pick better be Huff at 8.

I really couldn't say that the drop off is that much, and not if we can get, a top DL or even LT in the process. I'd just as soon take the guy that's a half step slower, literally (4.32 vs. 4.38) if available at 70, and use my no. 8 for an area of need where I think there is a bigger dropoff, like DT (I think there's a dropoff after Ngata and Bunk) or LT (bigger dropoff after Brick and Justice).

But then, I've never liked safeties anyways. Wideout wannabies without the hands. :D

As a huge OSU fan, I like Whitner, but even I would admit, he's not top 10 material. Not yet anyway. If he would have stayed another year, which he SHOULD have (that bastard), he could have been top 10 next year.

HE STOLE MY PICK!!! Punk! ;)

We will see what happens, but for some reason Whitner's name keeps poping in my mind, but after trading down atleast once, I say twice though.

I feel the Bills #1 target after a trade down is Winston Justice, if he is gone, they will trade down again and take Whitner, that was my prediction.

Mayock is also the same guy who had Jay Cutler as the top QB in the draft.

Mayock has no respect for the Bills organization and so he professes the obsered pick to reflect how little he thinks of us.

Out of the blue multiple draft predictions are mentioning Donte Whitner in connection with our pick. Has something slipped out from One Bills Drive to the media? In the pre-draft press conference Marv mentioned that "the player we like" would probably be available somewhat lower down, there's no doubt Whitner would fit that description. If there's any validity to this then it's a strong hint they're looking to deal down a few picks, or perhaps significantly further, in the 1st round.

whitner is a player. of course being a buck i am completely biased. but here this: if we draft him at #8 even the most biased fan will crap himself. sure, his jersey will be mine, but it would be an absolutley awful pick. sure. trade down and get him....but if we take him at 8 then we have completely lost it. i shouldnt say we....instead i will say....RALPH!

I'd have no problem with that. The kid flies to the ball, wraps his arms and holds on for dear life. He doesn't hit as hard and he's a little faster, but he reminds me of Antoine Winfield. Check out his highlights, it looks like everyone else is moving in slow mo. I love the sack on Young. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/prospects?rank_type=11

Based on the draft value chart we could trade up to #6 using our 3rd round pick or trade our 2nd rounder and move up to #4. Witner should be avaiable at #4.

we aren't going to make that reach. i could see one huge reach. manny lawson. he's beefed up to about 245, could very much be in the freeney mold. you don't have to put small DE's in a 3-4 if your entire front 7 is quick, and can penetrate gaps. and that is definetly where the bills are going. i think bunkley might have an inside track, might... but i could definetly see a move made for lawson.

You could be correct about Lawson. He got a 43 on his wonderlick. He is a very smart player and fits what Marv wants and what this defense needs, a speed edge rusher.

Freeney is like 268 though. Lawson would have to be alittle heavier.

i don't think adding another 12 pounds would be out of the question or affect his game. he's basically put on 25 pounds since the end of the season, with 6 more months until the start of camp, he could efinetly grow some more.

i didn't even know about the wonderlizzle. for me, it's great to see a player with a high score, but athletic ability doesn't lie in the written test. that said, i would be hard pressed to draft anybody who scores lower then a 14 or 15.

I really like Whitner. I'm biased as a OSU fan, but I think he should have stayed in school one more year. He's still a bit raw and has tons of potential, but he isn't a 8th pick worthy. If we trade down in the 12-14 range then yeah.

And we have had good karma with ohio state DBs....but ohio state produces good DBs in general....Clements, Springs, Winfield, Doss, Gamble, and Whitner and Youboty this year.

Pro Football Weekly also predicted we'd take Whitner (although after a trade down with Philly) and Dan Pompeii of Sporting News also mentioned him as a possible selection at no.8 though he didn't actually say we'd pick him.

With those sources and Mayock suddenly predicting Whitner to the Bills on the eve of the draft, when there had not been even the slightest hint of such a pick in the weeks before, I somewhat doubt it had anything to do with their "expert" skills of prediction. Instead they likely received credible information to the effect that the Bills were targeting Whitner from people within the Bills or perhaps other teams.

In fact it seems like the only outlet that didn't know was ESPN. Regardless, someone at One Bills Drive needs to keep quiet in future so that other teams and the media don't discover our intentions and diminish our leverage in trade negotiations.

Guess this guy wasn't so out of line, although for the past couple weeks I thought he was smoking something too. The NFL Network's coverage slammed ESPN. I only turned to hear Boomer's comments before the Bills picked and he must not be getting that same cabbie as I didn't hear squat for the 2 picks. Cory Chavious is sooo much better than Kiper too.

I generally agree, to Mayock's credit he was very high on Whitner all along. He was always his #1 rated Saftey (he has Huff as a CB) and always said first round grade. I give him props for this and he raised his status in my eyes after this draft.

Hey, and not just him, props to the Answer and BillsCAfan. It would be great if any of you Ohio State fans could write up a report on Youboty and Whitner. If you do, post it and we'll get it up on the BBI.
