1st Anchor Bar franchise will be in N.C.

Business First of Buffalo - 10:07 AM EDT Tuesday

Six months after launching its franchise concept, the famous Anchor Bar (http://www.bizjournals.com/search/bin/search?q=%22Anchor%20Bar%22&t=buffalo) has signed its first development agreement.

Carlson Foods (http://www.bizjournals.com/search/bin/search?q=%22Carlson%20Foods%22&t=buffalo) has been granted the rights to market Anchor Bar restaurants in the state of North Carolina. Buffalo's Anchor Bar is considered the originator of chicken wings.

Carlson Foods operates some three dozen Arby's restaurants as well as two eateries in Chautauqua County -- the Wing City Grille in Fredonia, and The Casino in Bemus Point.

Financial terms of the franchise deal were not disclosed.
The first Anchor Bar in Charlotte is expected to open in November.
"We looked at many parts of the country and believe strongly that North Carolina is ideal for us," said Carlson.

The Anchor Bar is marketing three variations of restaurants under its franchising plan -- a replica of its original Buffalo operation; a smaller version called Anchor Bar-In-Line, and; a third fast-food derivation, Anchor Bar-to-Go.

I wouldn't mind seeing one come up here to Tronna. Perhaps they could setup shop across the street from the Duff's on Bayview Ave.

1) Only idiots use blue cheese or Hell forbid, RANCH, on their wings. That is made for those stupid green stalky things that water down your wings because the *******s at the restaurant keep them in a 30 gallon fish tank. 2) Anchor Bar is way better than Duffs, at least the sauce, depends who makes the wings, and 3) La Nova is pretty damn good too.

sounds like someone that's never been to charlotte... charlotte is FILLED with WNY'ers... and, more importantly, there are NO good chicken wing places here...

bring the anchor bar on... and make it a bills bar!

Sweet! Not only am I an Assclown, but also an idiot! Blue cheese on Wings are awesome (great on pizza too). Love AB Wings and yes La Nova's Wings (Char broiled BBQ) are off the hook.

No sh!t! I was at the Bills/Panthers game in '98, there was nothing but Bills fans there. You should have seen all of the Bills tailgaters in all of the little parking lots downtown.

I don't think Anchor bar franchises will go over that well. Chicken wings are pretty easy to make and so is the sauce, the great thing about making your own is you can experiment and customize to your own taste. Most cities have wing places already after the national craze a few years ago and most local pizza places have wings on their menu. Anchor bar is good, I prefer Duff's myself, but a chicken wing is a chicken wing.

I agree. But then again..... burgers are easy to make, but Mickey D's and Bk seem to do pretty well :)

I agree. But then again..... burgers are easy to make, but Mickey D's and Bk seem to do pretty well :)No accounting for taste. The only reason those two "restaurants" do well is because of the convienience and price. Mass production at it's finest.

What I was trying to say is in most places the market is already saturated and to have a new player come in and try to take business from already established restaurants may be difficult.

Both of you are high... Finding good buffalo wings out of town is near impossible; especially in the West and SE... I currently live in Charlotte, where the 1st Anchor Bar is going and there is maybe one place I would recommend the wings too... Anyone that has lived outside WNY would agree with me that as easy as it sounds (to make great wings), people have a tough time doing it... In addition, out of towners know the Anchor Bar name... A buddy of mine called me asking "what is that place where wings were invented in Buffalo"... He heard they were opening here and recognized the name... People are going to flock to the Anchor Bar

For me, they are better than any chicken wings I've had, even if I do say so myself. But then again you have to be willing to put forth the effort.

Everyone thinks their own wings are the best, that's why we do put forth the effort. :)

But all the times I've been to Raleigh and the Orlando area, the only place where the wings were good were owned by people from B-Lo that moved their, i.e. Blincos or Buff Bros(which also has a place up here, did not know that, Batavia I think).

We are just working out some legal technicalities over the issue of waitresses -- sorry WXP women serving staff only -- delivering hot chicken wings to tables of patrons while topless.

We hope to make an announcement soon once we get the insurance placed.

We have already recruited the "staff".

Hey, they may be on to something by trying to crack the Neck-car market in Charlotte, the pork rind capital of the world. Never underestimate the power of Bubba.

I currently live in Charlotte and me and a lot of my friends refer to Charlotte as "South Buffalo" because of the LARGE Population of Ex Buffalonians! We have so many people here that we have a Buffanardis. The Charlotte version of Leonardis (sorry for spelling). The pizza wings are good but not like back home!

As for wings it is VERY hard to get good wings outside of Buffalo. Here in Charlotte you have alot places you can go to get wings like hooters, Buffalo wild Wings, and other franchises. We all know they are not the same. When you order wings from a place like applebees or hooters you are going to get ranch with your wings. Its a southern thing!

As for me the BEST Place in Charlotte to go for GREAT wings hands down is the TOWNSHIP GRILLE who original owners were from Buffalo! This also where alot Bills fans go to watch the game every Sunday with an all u can eat buffalo wing buffet!

So YES Bank of America Stadium will be half FULL of Die hard Bills fans on that First preseason game against Carolina.
